WM SuperTech Full Syn vs Pennzoil SemiSyn

Guys,
Wondering what your opinions would be. I have a new Chevy Cruze that requires a 5W30 Semi-Syn oil that meets DEXOS requirements.I've always been a big Pennzoil van but noticed that I can get the Super-Tech full synthetic at Wal-Mart for the same price. Do you think its better? Why?

Unless the ST has Dexos on the label there is no choice under warranty.

Just curious, how would GM techs test to determine if a Dexos oil was used or not if there was ever a warranty issue?

They probably wouldn't. All they'd want is for you to produce receipts of purchase of dexos-approved oil.

Exactly. Chances are they are not doing UOA's or any sort of testing just the receipts.
I wouldn't want to give them a hole to jump through though, that diesel engine is expensive and its new to GM.

If it's turbo then a full syn would be better. Otherwise the dexos blend is great.

Dexos is dexos bud. Any oil with a genuine dexos stamp will perform the same as any other.
And I've never seen a conventional oil that is dexos stamped. my understanding is that to meet the spec a lubricant has to be a semi-syn.

From the info I found GM recommends you use DEXOS approved oil but they cant void your warranty if you don't. With that in mind I thought about trying the ST full synthetic if its better for my turbo than the semi-syn pennzoil.

Since you need Dexos, get the Pennzoil.

Yes but it also goes on to say that if a DEXOS approved oil is not available than you can use any other SN approved oil.

I see. I was looking at the 2012 owner manual and it doesn't have the above text.

Ya, they have changed it. That quote came from the 2011 manual. I checked the 2013 on line and it says to use DEXOS approved or equivalent in the same section 10-11.

I take it your a fellow Cruze owner?

No, not at all. I was just curious how strict GM was about enforcing dexos compliance, so I downloaded an owner manual.

Anyway, if you want to use full synthetic, I'm sure there are a number of them on the dexos list. M1 5w30 comes to mind, and it's reasonably priced in 5qt jugs at Walmart...

I know QS full syn has dexos approved stamp. I would use both ST and Penz syn blend with confidence. ST full syn works perfect in my supercharged corvette.

for the money i would use Quaker state Ultimate Durability synthetic. it is Dexos approved and about the same price as the ST oil. QSUD all the way IMO
