Blue screen crash. Rebooted, but boot drive was gone. Checked BIOS and couldn't see drive there either, but I didn't dig deep at this point. This part still confuses me. Boot drive is Western Digital Black SN750 500GB SSD 3D NVMe

Decided to pause and open the box, taking a moment to clean the dust and look for burned components. The boot drive was physically removed, then put back, and all other drives were disconnected. When I was checking the BIOS earlier, there were various drives found, with digital reference numbers I was not familiar with, thus my confusion about what drives were found, and what wasn't. I'm certain that the WD Black was NOT there, though.

Said a Hail Mary, plug it back together, and it booted! Thank Goodness!

Research help from a friend pointed me at a known recent problem regarding Windows Update KB5063878 taking out SSD drive controllers. I uninstalled this update, which came out a week or so ago, and turned off automatic update. Hoping for a better update soon.

Today is "backup" day! I've been negligant, but NOW is the time!

Be careful out there...

Mine installed 8/14, and was fine up until yesterday. The video above said it occurs when moving large amounts of data, but mine crashed just surfing the internet.

Yes, it happened to my main PC, the large 4TB SSD storage drive. The only 'fix' was to buy a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro, which has internal caching and does not rely on host memory buffer (HMB) for caching. The 4TB drive that was in the PC is a WD Blue, which relies on HMB. The cause of the blue screens seems to be a clash between the HMB and the SSD firmware.

I wouldn't give up on that drive just yet. As mentioned, my drive miraculously showed back up, and started working normally again, for reasons I'm not clear about.

It’s always backup time.
