Will they update UOA tests for the newer oils?

Are the labs ever going to update their tests to show all the antiwear additives they've been leaving out for years with the newer oils? Everytime I shake the zddp tree, I get barked at saying they use other additives to make up for the reduction in zddp. Well why don't they show these additives in these tests? They only show half the story.

I assume it would be costly and considered non essential. It would be interesting to see what goes into modern oils being that this is a motor oil website.

when you asked the labs this question, what did they say?

There are a lot of chemical compounds which don't show up in spectral analysis. So many of the additives simply cannot be discovered in an inexpensive test.
Hence, the answer is "no", they won't "update their tests to show all the antiwear additives they've been leaving out".
