Will PU really go a year and 10,000 miles?

Did an oil change in my '06 Camry yesterday:

Out: Second fill of Amsoil SSO (0w30) that I kept in there for 10,056 miles (one year and 10 days). I did a Blackstone analysis last year of the first fill of Amsoil SSO if you're interested.

In: Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 at 49,531 miles on 8/4/12. I hope the PU will go as long as the Amsoil SSO, since I don't like changing oil more than once a year. Been using the oversized Mobil 1 oil filter shown below in my signature--this filter works great. Will probably do a Blackstone analysis of this P-Ultra in a year's time if I feel comfortable enough keeping this oil in my car that long.

Will be doing another drain-and-fill of the ATF in a week or so. Been doing an ATF drain-and-fill yearly too.

Will this PU really hold up for a year and 10,000 miles?

Hard to say without knowing more about your driving habits but I suspect it will do OK. You should definitely confirm with UOA. I wouldn't assume that because Amsoil does it any synthetic will. I like your strategy of choosing the oil for an annual change.

BTW, In my new Toyota V6, they are specifying a 10,000 mile OC interval right out of the gate, with 0W-20 and no OLM.

Will the oil go 10k? Sure. Does the Toyota 2AZ-FE I4 like 10k intervals? No. Its hard on oil which makes it prone to ring deposits and burnt valves/seals. New Toyotas running 10k intervals on XOM Toyota oil don't use this engine.

The transmission is easy on T-IV, what your dong you will never have any trouble. T-IV ages gray, indicator of your drain length. Usually 30k you start seeing it. 3.7 qts.

Coolant is a big deal not only for the system, but keeping the temps of the aluminum engine down. A simple overheat can be disastrous on that engine. Easy to drain and fill. Stay with the Toyota coolant and keep that moving with drains every 40k or so.

Keeping the TB and the small hole inside the TB clean will help with the vibration at idle. Be careful opening the plates, the electric motor is fragile. Techron concentrate just before OC is a good idea, also helps with the idle.

And in Canada Toyota has back-spec'd their 0W-20 to include the '06 Camry.

I left out the VVT-i system, another reason to limit extended intervals on this engine. Very sensitive to any deposit or varnish buildup. You will know when its happening, a 1-2 second ticking at startup then its stops.

I don't see a problem with 0w20 so long as oil consumption stays low. The factory catalyst efficiency threshold is set so high any minor oil burning will get you a P0420 before 100k. And these manifold cats are expensive.

Thank you very much LeakySeals and everyone for your advice.

I didn't know Toyota's 2AZ-FE inline-4 engine was hard on oil. Would there be a web page you could point me to where I can learn more about the 2AZ-FE's effect on oil?

What is the maximum distance you would feel comfortable driving with the 2AZ-FE and Penn Ultra: 7,000 miles, 8,000 ? Thanks again!

Because you asked, replace the generic "hard on oil" with "higher insolubles" on extended intervals. There really isn't one source, info spread all over. UOA's performed here. Weaknesses reported on various Toyota enthusiasts sites. Toyota TSB's. Its a reliable sturdy engine. Valve seals and rings are its weak spots. Makes for some blow by and oil consumption which tends to foul the oil after 5k. 7500 is good. You can run 10k, but I think its too far with this engine in respect to cleanliness.
