...two different oil viscosities for an engine? The manual states that 5w30 or 5w-40 is acceptable in all temperature ranges. Is this standard practice for other manufacturers too? What would you choose in this circumstance? For the record I have run QS 5w-40 euro in the past and now GC. I am curious to know why they wouldn't just recommend one.

They dont just recommend "just one" either is acceptable.
Why not be happy with options? If you look at a lot of manuals they actually recommened several weights depending on temp.

Well they are consistent about the cold number.
Once upon a time, car manuals gave a chart listing temperature ranges for different grades of oil you could use. Seems they listed about everything from SAE 20 to 20w50.

Are you 100% sure about that? I wasn't aware of M1 0w-40 being available in jugs, only 1qt bottles.

Likey because it's not going to make much difference either way. I would use the GC

yea Im certain of it. I only passed on it because it was SL rated...which apparently makes no difference, but figured Id say it.

That doesn't add up. M1 0W40 has been SM for some time now, and availability in 5L jugs would be a *new* development.

Im assuring you, Mobil1 0w40 was in 5qt jugs at walmart. I had 2 jugs in my hand, reading the back and comparing it to 15w50.
