why the higher end fram?

One of my local retailers had Fram Ultra's on sale for $6 recently. Bought 6. You can also buy the equivalent 6-pack on line for $36-$38 from multiple sources. I'm happy to spend the extra $1-$2 over the price of a TG.

I use the Fram TG and Ultra in my Hondas since they match the specs of the OEM filter. A bonus with the Ultra is running it for 2 OCIs.

OTH, I used a TG once on my Infiniti and it caused engine rattle on cold starts. So on that car, I stick to Nissan filters only.

If you want to see cheap junk filter take a look at the recent "redesigned" Tearolator recently posted. Cheap junk media with metal end caps, poor manufacturing and QA results in so many failures it's ridiculous.

+2 Crazyoildude.

I'll take Nates advice

The regular Bosch is basically a Purolator clone since they are both made by the same company (Mann+Hummel).

How often are you planning on changing the oil & filter?

3-5k miles... the thought of the purolator problems lately has me nervous, however. have a supertech on it now since reading they're made by wix and can't beat the price

but i'd like something with 99% or better filtration, also. the bosch i'm referring to is the "premium" if that makes a difference

So ... There's no need to start any negative talk about Wix unless there is proof that there has been a decline in the quality of their filters (which there hasn't been); that is, there has to be a trend of failed filters/multiple failed filters, and there has been no such trend reported on here.

Acquisitions have positive and negative results.

M&H took over the Purolator JV in 2013.

They have only just taken over Affina.

Both are in North Carolina. There must be plans for some sort of rationalizing / streamlining of production. It could improve things or it could cause problems. It often comes down to the attitude of the acquiring company.

Seeing the issues with Purolator, right now I would be a little worried if I was a Wix fan. But if the new Purolators are reported back in good condition, then there would be cause for optimism.

Whatever happens, we can look forward to seeing the results on bitog in the years ahead!

Based on many thread showing cut open new Purolators, it's not looking real promising that they are back on their feet yet.

think i'll try the fram tough guard. readily available and on their site lists as a "synthetic blend media".. plus they're not expensive.

who else makes a synthetic media filter at a decent price, that's available at a box store?

The Fram Ultra is about as cheap as you'll find a full synthetic filter, and its performance is top rated.
