Why so much hate??

Hi guys
I have only been here a little while but can someone please explain to me why so much hate about different brands of oil??It seems like if you dont run the same oil as me then you are in the wrong.Cmon people , its only oil. I just dont get it.

Where is all this hate you speak of? I looked at some of the threads you posted in, not much hate there.

Hate? Maybe a little. A lot of disagreement? Yes. For example, I only use M1 oils, but most oils today are outstanding in the average engine. I for one do not critize other oils as they all perform well today.

Don't mistake disagreement and possibly argument for hate. Very different things.

People have developed brand allegiances but it's rare that someone flat out says "I hate Pennzoil" or whatever.

There are a lot of high spirited people in here. Lots of folks have just stopped writing anything. I have tried to slow down some, but I have my moments. Some are clean freaks on inside of their engine, some are wound up over the thought u must use their or else, me,,I been driving since 1960, never lost an engine over that ancient oil of the 60s, amen. Im just saying.

yep, that pretty much sums it up.

Keeps the blood flowing and interest level up. I have seen Fram and Prius hate displayed here, and heaven help you if you go into one of those anti camps speaking otherwise.

"They" also hate on Mobil 1 5w30 pretty bad. If tell a relative about going here they are perplexed why I would go argue about oil and oil filters. I don't know either, just sort of get pulled into it. Maybe that's it, we like talking oil but have no one else to talk about it with.

Hate is a strong word, dislike or will never use might be a better choice of words. LOL

I stand corrected about using hate. That is a strong word. I should have said dislike so and so oil brand.I still dont understand why if oils are rated the same and meet the same specs,why some folks say they will never use certain oils. I guess brand loyalty runs deep. I used to have a favorite but now I think all name brands are pretty equal. I buy any name brand on sale when I see it. Sorry if I upset anyone.

Hello, You didn't upset anyone. The only "emphatic disregard" I can bring to mind from this board comes from the 1 or 2 people who don't agree with Royal Purple's pricing and Amzoil's lack of certain certifications. The thing I hate is not being able to find these super oil promotions so many BITOG people find.
There's another guy from Texas who has as his signiture,"There are two types of oil, the ones on sale and the ones which aren't."

But yea.....there's always going to be disagreements.....but by no means "hate" is not the right word

Now, if someone has such brand-loyalty that they "hate" someone for not using "their" preferred brand of oil.....that's just obsurd.


The way I look at it, more for me with one less person using it lol.

The FRAM hate is of a different animal though.....seems that's the biggest "hate" I've seen here.....all in all generally amounts to their cardboard end caps, etc.....but many "pros" have came forth and stated the cardboard is secure enough and doesn't compromise the filter in any way....no problems here, I'll believe it; as I contine to use my XG3614 and TG3614 filters

But yea, really there is no reason to "hate" one brand over another....since most all oils have the meet the latest ILSAC/API/SAE ratings......sure, there are some that may not meet the "latest" (Accel...lol.....[censored], even Royal Purple is still SL rated last I checked....but still make a great oil, and adpack. Downside, their oil won't be "compatible" with newer vehicles that require the latest API/ILAC requirements...unless the owners want to stray from their warranty.

1. People are passionate about their oils.
2. An internet forum is not the best medium for polite conversation. There is no face-to-face interaction to dampen the strong words.

Overall, these posts have no consequence in this universe.

One needs to take it easy and just use Mobil1 oils.

You gotta' show me what you mean...I haven't seen "hate" on BITOG...and since "hate" is one of the most-overused words in the media today, I think people may have forgotten its true meaning...

Ah, just say your update...yep, opinionated, that's for sure! Lots of passionately held opinions on oil and filters! Take it all with a grain of salt...
