Received an oil change coupon from a Honda dealer in So Cal, the cost is $36.95 for most Honda/Acura that do not need 0W20 and include some inspections and top off some fluids. For cars that need 0W20 or S2000 the cost is $10 more at $46.95.

I understand that Honda has synblend 0W20 and it costs more than regular 5W20, but why $10 more for S2000 ? It needs conventional 10W30 with unique filter PCX-004 that is not used in any other Honda. The last time I bought an oil filter at Honda dealer was 8 years ago, it included the filter cap wrench for less than $10.

They probably can't use their cheap bulk oil that they have in the shop, and have to break out some quarts of 10w30.

Seems like they don't stock many parts for the S2000 anymore (or ever did). They didn't even have a PCV valve in stock the last time I visited the dealer.

bulk oil is cheaper for shops to use, thats how they can do cheap oil changes and still make a profit. when shops have to use an oil they don't have in bulk they get it from the same places you do and pay the same prices you do. Then they have to mark it up some for a profit.

I betcha they don't have 10w30 in bulk and have to buy it out. I know at my work we don't have 10w30 in bulk. If we buy oil out in bottles we will get charged around 6.99 a quart for regular dino or around 8.99 a quart for full syn from a parts house.

Why wouldnt you just go to a different oil jobber or walmart to stock up????

My old Chevy dealer bought all of his filters and some of his oil at WalMart. Said GM couldn't even come clase. And these were AC Delco filters.

Yeah, no bulk oil therefore 10W30 costs them more in quart bottles and PCX-004 is a low volume filter and costs more too.

My S2000 had dealer oil change 3 times, the first 2 when I bought the car in 2003 they gave me 2 free oil changes, the last oil change was free for being the first time customer at Norm Reeve dealer in Huntington Beach. Now they have my address and email, they just email the coupon and I was a little surprise to see that S2000 cost $10 more than others, I thought that 10W30 dino is very cheap and easily obtain from anywhere.

No WalMart in town. The only 10W30 we stock is a HDEO for the new Scorpion diesels.

In bulk we have
Motorcraft 15w40 HDEO
Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend
Motorcraft 5w20 full synthetic
Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic blend
Motorcraft Mercon V
Mazda 0w20

I have lost count of the different transmission fluids I have to stock, its somewhere around 8 or 9 for Ford and another 4 or 5 for Mazda. We have to stock in each brand even if they overlap for warranty coverage.

Generally when people come in wanting weird weights we don't normally use they want it right away.
