Who cares where it's made, it's who designed it that matters. My VW engine was made in Poland. It's a German engine, made in Poland. Trans was made in Argentina and whole thing assembled in Mexico. Do I have a Mexican car? No. It's German.

Skepticism and critical thinking are hard, and lead to the idea that you don't know very much.

Jumping to conclusions and declaring them loudly makes you feel powerful.

The Twin-Cam Europa's engine is old and loose. At operating temps a 20wt oil would not provide adequate oil pressure.

In my 928 Porsche even the 0w30 GC I'm running is considered too light by some although I of course don't think so. This car is not driven in the winter and is used predominately on the highway and for longer trips. I presume the oil is at operating temps 95% of the time therefore there would be little if any advantage in running a 20wt. The car also doesn't have an oil temp gauge which I would want I've I was to experiment with a 20wt oil.

It's actually less than 4%.

We are both wrong.

According to this website its 8.1%
I was looking in the wrong column.

It also depends on what you call "Europe", the data on that website is most likely correct though.
You are wrong. Germany is still less than 4% of Europe (50 countries). You are talking about European Union (27 countries).

This 30-40wt oils in European cars thing is comparable to the American short (3-6k miles) OCIs.

I think it's a habit.

Ask the average Italian male if a Ferrari designed in Italy, made in Poland and assembled in Hungary is still a Ferrari and I'll bet he would say: NO!

@ finnautti: You're right.
I guess I should start thinking about Russians as Europeans.. well at least about the ones that live in the European part of Russia that is.

When I had my Audi TT, I used Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 or PP 5w-40 European. Mine went out of warranty and I used ANY 5w-40 synthetic. She was running like a clock when I sold her. No fuss no muss!!
