Yup, we trade around a little for logistical reasons like refining abilities. But if the US produced twice what it consumed, it would sell the rest on the world market and have a VERY strong dollar. We're in a better spot than we were twenty years ago though for energy independence.I may be wrong but I think we import less than 15% of our oil demand from OPEC nations. I think most of our demand is produced domestically.
My kid's 18 and off to college; gas here is cheaper than it was the day he was born. If it were the same percentage of my hourly pay it'd be $11/gal.
