Why fret over high-end filters anyway?

It is nice to know that we have such abundance in our lives that we can worry about the which is the best oil filter when it probably doesn't make any difference in the life of our engines because the cause of failure or short engine life will not be the oil filters filtration specs.

You clearly haven't looked at any of the documented cases involving failed e-core and OCOD filters. Some were fairly minor failures, others more serious (filter pretty much imploding).

Your sweeping generalization shows only your own lack of information on the subject, making your comment meaningless. Faulty premise = faulty (useless) conclusion.

I have seen many filters fail over the years at work. I base some conclusions on more than just internet articles.

+1 My friend has been using the Fram spin on filters and when he changes his oil the oil filter is always empty. He switched to the Motorcraft filter and it is always full when he performs the oil change now.

The whole point of this site's existence is for us "oil extremists" to go into more oil related research then most men have gone before us. Oil filters are a natural extension of that.

With OCIs getting increasingly longer, I would say the relative quality of an oil filter is more important now than it was in the past (and similarly, there are far more offerings to pick from at different price points).

As you say the filter makes no difference in the life or health of an engine, I challenge you to back those words up. Go out and buy an OCOD or E-core of your choice, whichever is cheaper, and put it on. And leave it on for the remaining life of your car. After all, it doesn't really do anything so why spend more than you have to or replace something unnecessarily? Then report back to us in a few years on how your experiment went. With pics. Of both the filter and your valvetrain (feel free to change the oil as often as you like, and use whatever you wish).

I know better than to leave any oil filter on my car for its life, that is a silly statement. As far as The whole point of this site's existence is for us "oil extremists" to go into more oil related research then most men have gone before us. Oil filters are a natural extension of that. It has been done before this site was in existance by engineers that work for the oil companies and engine manufactures. This site is to learn ,not to spread false ideas.
