The Hyundai filter is identical to a Wix 51334, right? Those are $8.99 retail. And the Honda filter is just a Fram, right? Those are like what, $6.99? That's what's wrong... these OE filters are a RIP OFF!

How you know it is identical? Are they made absolutely from same material by Wix or by Fram? If not, they are not identical.

Your first mistake was going into an auto parts store.

I get Hyundai OEM filters at Walmart for around $6.

Toyota had sale 3 for $12 last year.

Then it's a worthless engine. The PSI of oil is dynamic during operation if the engine is that sensitive it's not long for the world.

Agreed

*Like to know what he "lectured" you about regarding the OEM oil filter? ... While Hyundai makes a robust oil filter - the BITOG crowd is in agreement the filter media and filtering of the Hyundai oil filters are just average .

If Hyundai and Kia makers thought an increased trapping oil filter like the Fram Ultra would be beneficial, it would be on brand new factory built vehicles. The extra few dollars for the cost is not even a factor. For new vehicle owners would not give the sticker price a 2nd look, if the price changed by adding $5-$10.

Not unless they thought long term it would increase the bottom line. They are in the business of selling cars not necessarily making them last that extra 100K miles.

Hyundai and Kia are not going this far into the weeds into filter design. They give a set of specs and places for bids and chooses the most financially beneficial offer.

With most automakers, even a couple of dollars per unit makes a big difference in their bottom line. They know the oil filter on the car from the factory is going to be changed not long after the car is sold, so why spend extra money on an oil filter. If the part they were deciding to use was on the car forever, they might think about spending a few more dollars on that part if it was determined it would save them money down the road in warranty work.

I can buy Toyota and Honda OEM filters online from dealerships who ship for free and give great prices. I do that because it is easier to do than to go out and get them. That said, are we really [censored] and moaning about an item that on many cars can be changed every other oil change and so on my Honda following the OLM means it'd cost me an extra $3 every EIGHTEEN MONTHS?!

Honestly, if I was already there I'd just buy the [censored] thing and forget all about it costing me a cup of coffee more. I know...many here would spend $10 more in gas to get $3 off a filter. Then there's the cost of time which is much more important to me than $3.....

I use only Toyota filters on the older ones and they run around 6-7 $ the rav4 gets a mobil 1 extended life filter and 10,000 oci. my wife really racks up the miles on this car about 35,000 ea year . the mobil 1 filter was in amazing condition at 10,000 and could have gone longer.
