I agree on both. I am running Amsoil SSO in my accord which calls for 5w20 and Edge seems to border on the 5w-20 / 5w30 mark.

Always has been the numero-uno cyl power-balance cause on a engine with good valve seal. Becomes Less of an issue with "true" synthetics - giving more consistent, day-to-day engine performance.

Running GC (Castrol Syntec 0w30 Made in Germany) on a 2003 Mazda Tribute V6 that doesn't mention allowing 30s. It really quited the car down compared to the M1 5w20 that was in before.

Running Cam2 Plus Pro Synthetic Blend on a 2007 Hyundai Sonata V6 that calls for 5w20 but allows 5w30. I don't really notice any difference on this one. I'll run 5w20 when I have some to put in.

went 101K miles on 5-20 in the 05 Accord 4cyl. After taking a good loko at the wear pattern on the cam I could see, switched her over to 5-30 with 2 oz ZDDP.
Like the Fleetwood Mac song "never goin back (to 5-20) again"

As I mentioned in a recent post,(in which I asked for oppinions), I'm currently using PEAK 5W30 dino in my daughters Mazda3 2.0L which requires 5W20. The Mazda OM doesn't even offer another grade of oil, only 5W20. It's no longer under any warranty. I'll be changing the oil/filter soon again with the same, as she is putting on about 2500 miles/month. I personaly like the way the enginge sounds with the 5W30 as compared to the 5W20(quieter/smoother). I'll use up the PEAK oil as we have/had 30 qts(FAR) before moving to another oil.

Man, I hated this Peak oil in our Rav4. The wife wanted it , and it was on sale, she like the "woman power image" Danica Patrick sponsor. One of the worst dino I ran other than Kendall GT1. Maybe I just got a bad batch ...

My Tacoma is spec'd for 5w30 and then back spec'd for 5w-20. I'm running a 5w-20 full syn right now due to the low temps and I'll run a 5w30 full syn in Summer due to towing a boat. The Tacoma has 84K on it and no problems so far.

My Mustang is spec'd for 5w-20 and no other grade is offered.
So I'd been following the recommendation and paid no mind to it until I made some passes down the 1/4 mile track on a 90 degree day, and when the oil level was checked once I got home, it was running a bit low.
Since then I've decided on the 5w30 Mobil 1 and haven't looked back. Before CAFE 5w30 is what it called for anyway.

Edit: I haven't noticed any change in MPG or performance. Just no more oil burnoff.

I also use 5W30 in my Mazda (current fill is PP) and I noticed smoother running engine, especially at higher revs. and no gas mileage change.

Two Honda's and one Mercury and all get 5W-20. Clean, no oil consumption, no cam wear scars that I can see. Now if I were going drag racing or road racing I might try another weight oil.

2 2008 Jeep Patriots, 2001 Ford Escape, and a 2004 Ford F150, all call for 5w20, all get PP or Shell Synthetic 5w30 except one of the leased jeeps....it gets the cheapest dino 5w20 I can find on sale cuz it's going back when the lease is up.
I think 5w20 is fine for normal driving condition, my reason for using 5w30 is that is what is available in sales around here
(PP5w30 $19 a jug, Motomaster (Shell) $15 a jug) and I stock up. Never get a good sale on 5w20 synthetic around here. Also I tow with my Patriot, the F150 is a work truck, both are city driven in stop and go traffic, and the Escape is constantly run on short trips less then a mile.

Im not sure what the concoction in mine works out to, I have an 07 F150 with 5 qts of Mobil 1 EP 5W20 and 2 qts Mobil 1 15W50 in it right now. I have never run strait 5W20 in it.

I have a 09 Corolla that calls for 5w20 or 0w20, and I've run mostly synthetic 5w30. The engine feels smoother, and there is no noticeable difference in fuel economy. I wouldn't, and don't, hesitate a bit to run 5w30 in a motor "spec'ed" for 20wts, especially if you're going to run a synthetic 5w30.

I have used 5-30 in the Focus with no problems at all. This presant fill has 9400 miles on the OC. With that said I already have an OC waiting with M1 5-20EP which goes in in about 2400 miles.

I use various brands dino/synthetic xW30 oils in 1994 LS400 the last 16 years and never detect any differences with butt dyno. It has Peak 10W30 for about 1k miles now and the engine is as quiet as with any other oil, synthetic or dino.

I use M-1 5w30 in my wife's 2004 Odyssey. I did try M-1 5w-20 and noticed oil loss with long hard driving. No such loss with the "heavier" oil. I have not noticed any difference otherwise.

I also have not gotten a ticket for it, so far.

Before you know it, you'll be trying something other than M1.
