'11 Kia Optima. When I have it on AM, some faraway stations will get a whining noise, like a Ford power steering whine, when I turn the steering wheel. It'll be a low steady whine when I don't turn it, when I turn steering wheel,it gets louder.. I also can hear it sometimes when the turn signal is on. It only does it on AM far stations

probably some sort of ground loop or electrical noise.

AM is pretty much trash to most people so since 1 out of 100 people might even listen to it.. there isnt much engineering put into it.

Just keep to tuned to the station that starts with a "K" and ends with an "I". That one is 50,000 watts. All the rest are garbage any way.

Get a digital volt meter and check the voltage at the battery. Set the meter to AC volts to see how much AC is on the DC voltage. The voltage regulator in the alternator could be bad.

Static from the car's electrical system.
Sometimes it's simply a poor ground for the radio.

Back in the simpler days there was a condenser grounded on the alternator with the wire attached to the Pos post. Looked identical to the condensers for the points.
You can get an inline condenser and place it in the radio power line.
You can get articles on the subject by googling "radio static suppression".
Crutchfield has a diagnostics chart online.
