I was planning on switching all of my equipment (from 6HP Briggs to 23HP Kawasaki) to Rotella 5w40 but I am rethinking my choice. I originally wanted to run the Rotella since I have this on hand because it is what I run in my trucks. However after a little more reading I am wondering if running a syn 10w30 or a syn SAE30 would be a better choice.

Your comments are much appreciated.

Thank you,
Ryan

Either Syn 10w30 or 30 wt. would be great & probably better than the 5w-40.

I beg to differ. The higher ZDDP levels found in the Rotella would be ideal for your equipment. Run Rotella synthetic an do so with confidence.

For what it's worth, I run Rotella T syn 5W-40 in ATV's, tractor, lawn tractor, mower, generator and snow blower with success. Is it better? I don't know, but it is readily available, encouraging timely changes.

I run XD-3 full PAO synth 0w30 (heavy 30wt at 12.2 CST) in all my 4 stroke equipment that calls for 10w30. I am close to the mountains and often camping there. Chilly mornings and hot afternoons are the norm.

That's a goofy statement considering that the posters up to this point didn't specify a brand or formulation of 10W30/SAE30...

The formulation, not the weight, obviously determines the ZDDP levels. Rotella even has their own SAE30.

I've gone the Amsoil ASE (30/10W30) route, many also like ACD (high TBN diesel 10W30/SAE30). I'd expect both to have good ZDDP levels as they are API SL.
