Which oil would you never use?

A few manufacturers still make it, but export it out of the U.S.

Here you go: http://www.ilma.org/resources/impact_lowqualityoils.pdf

I would never use oil that has an ancient API spec or one that is not suitable for the engine it is being used in. I would also avoid using any oil from unusual brands that I have not heard of... just look at what the PQIA tests have found with some of these odd brands lately.

There are just too many questionable odd brand oils to trust them without supporting data. I'm being careful not to say all "generic" oils are bad, since there are plenty of store brand oils that are perfectly acceptable. NAPA and CarQuest use Valvoline as their supplier, and Wal-Mart SuperTech has always looked good so far. I believe the Advance and AutoZone oils are OK too - at least you are dealing with reputable retailers with these and a few other big store brands.

In other words, I'll stick to oil from companies I have heard of and trust.

I tend to avoid store brand/Accel oils. They're probably fine but established brand names are usually only a few cents more. I tend to buy a lot of one particular brand name when they are cheap so there is usually no price advantage for store brands anyway. (Used to get Unocal 76 syn-blend from Big Lots for $1.67qt, I bought several cases of Phillips 66 Trop-Arctic semi-syn for $1.79/qt from WalMart and later bought all of the Quaker State synthetic AutoZone had for $1.99/qt)

Royal Purple: I had a bad experience with Royal Purple. Could be just an isolated event but I experienced a lot of valvetrain noise with RP. To top it off, it's cost prohibitive. I honestly can't see it offering any additional protection, power, or economy consistant with the additional cost.

Citgo: Hugo Chavez is as politcally repulsive as he is ugly.

i use conoco that we get in the drums delivered to the shop and have great uoa's
