Which oil would you never use?

Agreed. I used the original Mobil 1 for many years successfully, doing one year, average 18,000-20,000 mile OCI's. Since most M1 formulations are now SM's, I use M1 10W30 High Mileage, which is still SL. I use it in my Pathfinder and all of my small engine outdoor power equipment.

Yes, somebody posts a link to the latest wonder every few months. They will work with enough antioxidents in them, at least for a while.

I found a couple super oils at my local dollar or more store. Both were from new world sales in Ill.

M1, Amsoil, Redline, R Purple is the top category for synthetic oil. all previus data posted here is proof enough for me.
50% of Nascar uses Mobil 1. Those guys know a thing or two about lubrication. On the amatuer Motorcycle racing circuit almost all the guys use either M1 right off the shelf or Amsoil and some Castrol.
That doesn't make it the only good oil but, it's a great oil.

Simply this PAO and Esters conduct heat differently and have different heat capacity !
I did not know that, so instead of super expensive test by IR you can actually in your own kitchen find out HOW MUCH synthetic is in your oil (what ever brand you are addicted to).

Get plain API SA SAE 30 motor oil form place like Wal-Mart
Put an electric heater and thermometer into any convenient container (I prefer chemical glass column) and time the heat up from 100F to 300 F.
Then you can do that with your favorite oil, and the FASTER it heats up (less energy it takes to elevate the temperature) the more PETROLEUM is in the blend!
I could se NO difference between petroleum and supposedly "synthetic" Quaker State ! But a big differentce between the SA and PAO - so this apparently does work!
Interesting, but then QS is API Group III "synthetic" so this simple test really works !!!

Bullseye, Liberty, Dollar General and Spectrum are some of the oils I would not use.
I cant say that I would never use a certain oil but I am not real fond of SOPUS brands,Castrol or Havoline.They may be good oils but I prefer to avoid them.

In no particular order:
SOPUS has the majority of my business because:
- Anything from Valvoline (as long as Ashland owns it)
- Any discount or regurgitated oil like Ring Seal, Top Kote, etc. (my engines are worth more than that)
- Any boutique oil like Amsoil or Royal Purple (price and availability)
- Anything from Citgo (up yours Chavez)
SOPUS has the majority of my business because:
- I personally know people in the Pennzoil organization and I am supporting them and their families
- They make some great products at a good price point (are SOPUS products the most widely used???)
- SOPUS products are available most everywhere
- With names like platinum and ultra how can you go wrong? (j/k)
For me this is a no brainer. If a oil does not meet current specifications for my vehicles or the ones that I service then they do not go into the crankcase. Name brand and reputable certified house brand dino oils are fine by me , and satisfy the requirements of 90% of the vehicles on the road. If it is a high performance or turbo/supercharged vehicle it will get a dose of Mobil 1 or a quality SOPUS product. In my opinion a boutique oil such as Redline , RP or Amsoil is unnecessary, while great oils I do not believe they perform any better than M1 ,PP,Edge etc in a real world setting.
