if you have an engine that may need all the lep it can get in sealing both large and small leaks, if you have a hunch the previous owner in my case got the engine good and hot and either somewhat belew somethin like a gasket or maybe caused a failure of a part of the engine so it still runs and you need to help the engine out with oil and the pressure test seems to point to somethin in the engine but that engine still runs strong if you can patch it up as best you can without opening it up

I suspect something in the actual engine or gasket and a high miles oil is going to help me im thinking of some lucas too im low on cash

the first time i fired up the 2.8l camaro i saw smoke or steam from under my carburetor and it didnt do it with the cap off and the oil was low it looked fine but there will be sealing oil in there if my suspicions are correct that something in there isnt sealing as well as it did and the engine got ran hard and hot aand even if its something more major than the gasket again a sealin goil is in order, its my car now and im broke. and it runs so good im thinking an oil that seals just may help it, i know people that used sealers and their car ran as it should for long times befiore symptoms came back some are even stuill using their sealed up with stuff ina bottle car, again these are just my suspicions that something nasty might be making what i saw ehen i saw the smoke or steam from under the carburetor idk.

Which oil seals up the best ?

Many people here like Valvoline Max-Life for cars that have minor leaks, but your results may vary. DO NOT use Lucas oil "stabilizer", it's junk.

filler up with 4 qts no-smoke and one qt of oil. that will fix it!

or you could take it to the car wash and clean the engine well. then see where its leaking from....

If the leaks are severe I don't think any kind of oil will stop the leak. At some point you need to find the source of the leak and repair it. Other wise the leak could result in a total loss of lubrication resulting in a major failure.
Your post is very hard to read with the lack of punctuation with ons=e sentence running into the other.
It just makes it really hard to pick up what your trying to say.

fair enough, i need to focus

I was asking if there was perhaps some type of quote unquote "best oil" that can maybe patch my engine up if i have a small leak somewhere, since my engine feels strong but i sispect a leak and i dont have cash even for a pressure test im thinking an oil that seals will help me vs a normal oil, and certainly can not hurt. opinions on this?

I say again, engine feels strong

I think what others have been saying is that:
1. They know you're trying to patch it up for now, so they recommended Valvoline MaxLife. I think it has good stuff in to swell gaskets a bit.
2. Using oil to "solve" the problem won't work forever and the cost of not fixing it in time might be a blown engine.

Make sense?

if you just suspect a leak its probably not too bad if you have one. have you noticed oil spots in the driveway? or have you noticed oil consumption? from what i have read of your posts it seems like you just got the car and you are not sure of the condition.

i have ran plenty of 2.8s. its ok to run a 10/40 if it is using oil or it has over 150k on it.
so my recommendation to you is run valvoline maxlife 10/40 if it is using alot of oil. otherwise maxlife 10/30
best of luck

I 'fixed' valve stem seals once in a modular 8 by adding a couple of bottles of Red Line oil. The same oil might aggravate a small leak under a different scenario..

Just a thought but you said white smoke coming from your engine. By engine you mean the engine bay and not the exhaust. If its coming from the engine bay could the engine be dirty? Could it just be that the car sat and some rodents desided to nest up in there and leave turds on the intake? This is just a thought since I dont know the history of the car.

Other wise its a old engine with probly well over 100k, I'd run some Bars stop leak in it or a high mileage oil like Quaker state.

Does it... help you to know?

Seal swell agents: "[an] organophosphite having the general formula (RO)3 P wherein R is a hydrocarbyl group containing from 8 to 24 carbons, preferably tris(nonylphenyl)phosphite and a phenol of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl group of from 8 to 24 carbons, preferably nonylphenol..."
