I am new to this board and i need to ask several questions so i get the information right the first time.

I am in the process of having a 347 (stroked 302) built for me (91 Mustang Coupe)with a new block and it will have 450-500 horses.

I need to know what oil to start out with and should i use that filter magnet as well.

When should i start to think about changing the oil after the first start and what do you guys think of regular versus synthetic?

The car will be a garage queen only allowed out when the weather is nice and clear.

What about break in procedure for the engine or is that a myth?

what brand oils are better in dino and synthetic?

The car will be kept and driven in Florida so there is no issue with winter per say.

I appreciate your responses!!!

I am not a teenager anymore so I don't believe it will put me in the grave.

Just want to take care of my baby!!!!

Are you doing the work yourself or having it done? If you are having it done I would suggest asking the builder for their advice-they know what they've done the best and may have specific requirements for any warranty.

Otherwise...I've always been a fan of changing it early on a new engine and erroring on the side of caution. I wouldn't hesitate to use dino and change it at or before 1000 miles, then at 2000 miles, then switch to synthetic at 4-5000 miles and do OCI's based on what your comfortable with.

Sounds like an awesome car by the way!

3 good dinos are Havoline, Chevron and Motorcraft. 3 good synthetics are Mobil 1, Valvoline and Quaker State.

If your car is a garage queen you'll probably only change the oil once or twice a year so you should switch to Synthetic after break in.

I would start with a good dino 10w30 Motorcraft filter and leave it in for only a short while as a "flush". Just in case any dust or grit stayed or fell in while you had the engine open.

Then I would dump that oil and filter run the same combo during the "break in". Yes - check with the builder or consult the books. There are several schools of thought - from easy to fast.

I'm not sure of the clearances - but for your climate and driving I recommend a synthetic 15w40 such as Amsoil AME or the S2K 20W-50 TRO, if the builder says 20W-50.

When you get ready for synthetic, check out Synergyn. The LTS 3W30 or their 5W30. Both are excellent oils for high horsepower engines.

The engine will be put together by a shop and this guy knows what he is doing.

I appreciate your replies as it helps me "do it right the first time".
