I plan on changing the oil every 5,000-6,000 miles.

Tell me what engineering you've done to find fault with Toyota's engineering?

Toyota Malaysia says change your (corolla) fully synthetics oils in every 5000 ...... km, not miles !!

Malay OCIs are short due to the fuel they use.

We have low sulphur fuel, and some have ultra low sulphur fuel

Iin Malaysia they fuel their vehicles with high sulphur or ultra high sulphur fuels (which in real terms more closely resemble pure sulphur with unleaded mixed in at 50-500 PPM.

Hence their ultra short interval.

If you have to stay with 0w-20 for warranty reasons - I'd go with Mobil 1 EP - it has about 70% PAO stock in it and should fair well with long OCIs and/or in hot climate.
Any 5w30 A5/B5 oil will do very well too especially with 5-6K OCIs.

Where we live it gets 115 degrees in the summer time and very mild winters. Maybe down to 28 degrees.
The car calls for 0w-20 oil. Now I know any oil should do.
But I would prefer a thicker 0w-20. Just for peace of mind.
I plan on using either Toyota OEM or Mobil 1 oil filter.

A nice syn 10w30 would be great in your application. If you are sticking with a Xw-20 I would go for a full syn 5w-20.

If it was mine I'd go with a 10w30

I would use Mobil1 EP or Castrol edge EP with an OEM oil filter and take it to 10k, and get a UOA with TBN done to make sure everything's okay and call it a day.
