Bought a used 2002 Toyota Sienna minivan and it came with worn out Costco's Michelin X Radial 215/65/15. What else do you guys recommend for the Sienna? Budget for a set of 4 is $500, the van will be use by the wife to haul kids around so traction and ride comfort are important, we see quite a bit of snow here in DC area in so it would be nice to have decent snow/ice traction in winter too too.

Is this a 4wd? I hear there is a tire wear issue on siennas. Go to tirerack.com and look at the comments. I had good luck with pirelli P4 - they perform way above their price point - a great tire and much MUCH better than OEM bridgestones and yokohamas.

Either one of these 5 tires will cost you less than $500 installed.
Pirelli P4 Four Seasons
Michelin Harmony
Yokohama AVID TRZ
Yokohama AVID TOURING-S
Kumho Solus KR21

Ice traction is a big demand from a tire. If you want ice traction you want Blizzaks.

NO all season is as good as a winter only set of Blizzaks on all 4 wheels. And you can not run Blizzaks in warm weather, you would wear them out quickly. You have to put them on late and take them off early. Best to have them on there own rims. Once you drive on a set of Blizzaks (all 4) in a bad winter you will never want to use anything else in the winter. They have traction on ice, even smooth black ice with a powder snow on top of it that you can not stand on. There traction is about 1/2 that of a studded tire, but if you take it easy you can go, stop, and turn with complete control. A two wheel drive vehicle with a set of Blizzaks will out drive a 4WD with all seasons every time.

Blizzaks are good at highway speeds and they are quiet compared to other winter tires.

Knock the set you are not using down to 3 to 5 PSI during storage.

I had those costco michelin x radials on my 2000 sienna and after 2 seasons they were not holding the road in rain or snow. several costco tire employees said they had never heard of problems with them so i might have gotten a bad set. I am not sure. They were well worn after 35000 - 40000 miles. Nice tire . beats harmonies all to heck. yoko's are good stay away from conti's.Look at the bfg's from costco. owned and made by michelin. cheaper too.

Yoko Avid touring S are not good - have them on the BACK of my Yaris now - the Firestone winterforce that displaced them this winter are MUCH BETTER all 'round. I vote for the Pirelli P4 (not P5!).

Michelin PC tyre are overrated like BOSE is overrated - like M1 is overrated

Yea we bought it from private party, it has a little tread left but can see micro-cracking all over so I cannot imagine having my wife and kids riding in this van with tires in such condition...

How's the road noise on those pirelli P4 compare to tripletred?

Those exact tires serves my parents well on their 93 Caravan in the DC area.

If you can.. try also, the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred (they are on closeout at TireRack, but maybe the local Goodyear stores may have them)

Go to tirerack.com and look at the ratings - there are noise ratings. I found them to be exceptional in ALL aspects ride, handling, balanceability, wet traction, noise. Only issue was the sidewall was a bit "ugly" in design. I think they are made in brazil.

I would just get another set of X-Radials.

Or, if you are a shrewd with pricematching, you can try to score a set of Primacy MXV4s or Turanza Serenitys.

They are a good tire. But they don't last. I would go with a set of Michelin X's.
