I can choose between a MAHLE TENNEX 15400-RTA-003 or the FILTECH TOYO ROKI 15400-PLM-A01.

The Mahle unit is what I understand the Honda Fit comes with from Japan. Any comments about these 2?

Toyo Roki & Mahle both make excellent filters. I would use whichever one is cheaper, easier to get or has a prettier color can.

Then I would choose based on country of origin if all other factors are equal. If those are the same (and you are OK with it), flip a coin.

Opened some Honda filters and have been impressed with the TOYO ROKI's. Not seen the insides of the MAHLE first hand but found a little on the web saying positive things, not sure if it was better than the TOYO. Thus the post.

A few aftermarkets were looked at but I know these two are at the top of the list and wanted to try to limit any comparisons to them. I have not found efficiency data on these, not the only consideration though. Looking to take them to 7,500 with a good 0-20 synthetic. Thanks!!

OK, just wondering. As for the efficiency, doubtful you will find much information on that, as the OEM's tend to not publish such information. The A-02 as tested recently though, was far less than stellar.

If sticking with Honda oem, the A-01 does seem to be preferred to the Rank A-02. When river_rat tested the no endcap design filters like the A-01 he found them in general to be not very efficient. I suppose the A-01 could be an exception, no real way to know for sure though. I know nothing about the Mahle made filter.

The two links below show some pics of the A-01. The first is used with comparison, second(scroll) shows a new A-01(fourth from left) with dissection compared to some other Honda applications. Might want to look at the entire second link later starting at 'home' through conclusions.

From what I am seeing now, the OEM is not the stellar product it once was!! Great, this is getting more complicated. Is a WIX/NAPA Gold of high quality in this application? Some think the element is quite small for the can.

I got away from Frams many years ago because of their leaking anti-drain back valves, there are more reasons now. I read several complain of another I was considering, the Pure One, of also leaking but on different models.

The hard thing is not just brand but the particular part number/application of the brand. Even if I settle on a filter the manufacturer can change the construction over time. Guess busting them open every oil change is the only way to tell.
