Which 7317 Fram ( or other sized filter ) for a 2.0 Honda commuter?

Made by PG as well (judging by it looks).
That's possible. However, the case of PG's I had before were made in Vietnam, & these are from Korea. They are identical looking inside & out, yet Pentius seems a little neater with pleat spacing & glue, & state are 99% efficient @ 20 microns & up.

Is it not possible that PG has two production sites or even maybe more? They seem to operate in that region of the world so it makes sense for them to have a site in Korea, Vietnam, and possibly China.

Absolutely possible. I'd imagine that there would be differences in production QA/QC between countries & factories under a single brand none the less.

Haven't cut one open, but the STP Extended Life filters look the same, & are made in China.

Does it state this on the box or?

The Pentius base plate is ever so slightly different from a generic PG. But otherwise very very similar.

PG sources filters rather than manufacturers them, but you can imagine there to be a manufacturer who operates in several countries in Asia.

Pentius is based in CA so may have nothing to do with PG except buying their filters from the same manufacturer albeit their factory in South Korea.

If 99% at 20 microns is true, this is even better than PG private labels that claim at 25 microns.

Closest thing to that from PG is the CarQuest Blue that states “99.5% efficiency at 20 microns“

Their Microgard Select version does state the ISO test as “99% efficiency (Laboratory Test Performance per ISO 4548-12 at 25 microns).”

Delving into PG they say this, so this Interfil is something I never heard of for North America filters. But their overseas filters they contract out it seems. Pentius is not on the list of brands but Ecogard is. Maybe old news to some. For me it is just delving into things.
If I had a 2024 car probably would get the filters at the dealer. Online dealers have cheaper sometimes, but how much money is this over a year? If one has a 2024 they have spent bigger money on the car.
Another source of diy oil filters is of course walmart supertech made in USA. . Plus every diy interested in what oil filter to get maybe should get an oil filter cutter.
As to Pentius ufxl, they do say multi pass efficiency but not the exact test.
Whip City has been a great resource too in oil filter construction.

Going further into Interfil, interesting that in 2016 they became part of Federal Mogul, and in 2020 Premium Guard bought Interfil.
Anyway PG, Pentius, Microard Select all have good looking oil filters.
I really want to use only USA though, so Purolator is rising to the top.

The last FE7317 I cut open didn’t have the crimped bypass so I think they caught it and stopped or it’s based on model
You've found/have a single anecdote that doesn't have the ripple and/or cut off edges bypass piece and have concluded the problem is fixed if not on all FE, specifically the current FE7317? I don't recall seeing an FE7317 c&p showing that specific anecdote. I'd be very interested in seeing c&p pics of the bypass seal area and also date code to go along with it. With a flashlight test for more evidence, even better.

Otoh, there have been multiple FE7317 c&p including virgin with relatively recent date code posted showing seal area ripple, some with flashlight light test showing seal area leaks.

Here’s my mega thread on the issue. This particular FE7317 was made on the 197th day of 2024.

Premium Guard says some north american operations. Since they bought Interfil in 2020, and Interfil was owned by Federal Mogul, some missing info is obtained.
Federal was making Champion oil filters, seen at Pep Boys, and I think were made in Mexico but could be wrong. So there is the PG statement about “north american.” That would be better than China or Vietnam, communist government countries.
Not that it matters with my amount of buying, but for me there is Walmart(fram made), Baldwin, or Purolator, if USA on label. Not trying to “ruffle” any Fram or PG buyers. Just as one person sees it, can voice it, and that’s how we roll in this country, and some others. No ruffling feathers intended.

When I got this commuter 2.0 civic last year ( I bought it new in 2024, I drive about 15k a year all highway ), I was going to use only OEM Honda filters. Today I decided that Im not... My local dealer sells them expensive and Id rather not get a fake one off line, thus my decision to get a Fram from Walmart.

My conundrum is, which 7317 Fram should I go with? I plan on running the oil based on the OLM. I do not plan on running it down to the bare minimum though, so around ~40% or so is when I would change it out. I would prefer to change the filter out every time, and not run one for two OCIs. Regardless, I know you guys know what filters works best and where, and I appreciate it.

thanks!
Fram Endurance or titanium that’s wire backed.

I know the PG headquarters are in Memphis TN and they also have offices is Massachusetts. Not sure if any North American manufacturing exists for oil filters. My guess is Interfil may have something south of the border.

Ignorance is bliss...I'm using Fram XG7317 from Amazon for $7.62 (subscribe & save). Don't buzz kill me bro! Yeah, yeah, I'm overpaying at that price. No, seriously, I'm sure I am, but it's easy this way.
