I see on the Advance Auto Parts site they have Silver and Gold for the Rendezvous.
I'm guessing gold is better.
1) Has anyone used these? Are they pretty reliable?
2) Has anyone used them on a Rendezvous?
3) Are there better pads?
4) Should I just stick with OEM?

I am going to have to get some soon and just doing a little research, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never used it. In general brand names brake pad such as Akebono, Wagner, Bendix ... are better than house brand. Same for oil, oil filter, air filter, ATF ...

I used the Wearever Silver pads and they are great. As good or better than the high priced pads. I wouldn't buy anything else. Brake pads are really not worth much, when you see them made in a factory. They might cost $1 or $2 to make

I put the gold ones on for a customer (he brought them in) and they didn't work well at all, i'm being charitable.
I put a set of Bendix CT+3 on and he was really impressed with the them, huge difference.

IMHO go with brand name or OEM. you can learn a lot about the pads by the code printed on them, most Bendix CT+3 are GG or FF which is great performance cold and hot.
Wherever are probably EE from the ones i have seen which is garbage.

I would use the OEM ACDelco 171-842 from amazon.com, only $11 more than Wearever.

The OEM also includes new bolts and pad slide clips.

Note--- ACDelco "Durastop" is not the same as OEM.

Ok thanks. I think I will just order OEM ones. I can get them for these prices from the place I order all my GM Parts from:

Front Pads: $57.98 (List Price: $103.54)
Rear Pads: $61.78 (List Price: $110.32)
Front Rotors: $52.63 (List Price: $93.98)
Rear Rotors: $97.43 (List Price: $173.98)

Shipping: $41.43
Total: $311.25

Saves me $212 over buying at a GM place. May just go this route.....

oh wow that is even cheaper

I installed Wearever gold front pads on my 80's BMW 325 last spring, they fit fine, stop well, are quiet, but produce a lot of black brake dust.

I installed Wearever gold ceramic front pads (and Wearever rotors) on an 04 Civic a few thousand miles ago, they fit fine, and are quiet, however right after install the stopping distances seemed long which concerned me. After a few thousand miles I do not notice the stopping distances being long, they may have broken in or I may just be used to it now. The pads also produce a good amount of light brown brake dust which is visible on the wheels and also on the tire.

I have installed Wagner Thermoquiet pads all around on a Town Car and an Accord and have had no noise, good stops and minimal brake dust. The fit was good on all except for one axle on the accord sounds like the pads clunk around when going from forward to reverse, this could be my imagination though. I used AAP discount codes and Wagner rebates when buying these pads.

If the OEM stuff lasted 98K on this beast, I'd say that you're getting a reasonable price.
Do you really need rotors?
At the second pad change, yeah, but right now?
If the rotors seem okay, you'd be cutting your costs in half.

Do you really need new front and rear pads and rotors, or just front brakes? You can usually usually put new pads on rotors that are in good condition but it may be worth replacing the front rotors to maximize pad life. Sometimes just replacing pads and reruning the rotors doesn't work out in the long run. If the rotors are in good shape, I'd definitely try to reuse OE rotors at least once though.

OEM pads and rotors are probably the best quality. If the price is an issue, ACDelco Durastop are not OEM but they are also good choice for a lower price. I'd also suggest Raybestos PG pads and Advance Technology or ACdelco Durastop rotors at a minimum if not going OE. I'm not a fan of the econo rotors regardless of the pad brand (OE, ACDelco, Bendix, Raybestos, Wagner etc) you go with.

I put wearever pads on my truck about two years ago and they're growling, grabbing and giving off a slight howl when barely creeping forward. I baby my brakes too so i wasn't impressed. Still lots of pad material left too.

Hawk PC's will be the replacement along with everything else.

Pads with the same name are different for different vehicles.
Both size/weight and sometimes composition.

I find that the best auto store pads have a great warranty, and work well. But avoid the cheapest, for sure.
So get Papa Bear or Mama Bear, and leave Baby Bear alone.

I replaced front pads of my S2000 last year with Bendix CT+3, it works as good as OEM with much less brake dust. I used to clean the wheels every week, now I don't.

I liked the Wagner Thermo-Quiet best so far. Little dust, no growling, fine brake power and long lasting.

My previous Delco Durastops were d3EA certified for uniformity of frictional characteristics, Wagners wasn't. However on inspection Wagners gave only 0.3% force variance right to left at 290daN brake force on tires. This is superb, not much room to be better.
