Just posted about maybe getting snows for my 01 Grand Marquis and I was wondering where one might get a set of steel rims? Tire rack did not have any, neither did discount tire. Anywhere else? There are so many of there Crown Vics and Grand Mqs out there I'm surprised they don't carry any.

Thanks!

This'd be my suggestion also.

check junkyards for police car wheels. you cannot use the older ones, is 92-97 because they will not fit over the brakes, also you cannot use the 03+ ones as the offset is way off. but there were tons of police cars made with steelies so you can find them cheap. you might want to get the sandblasted and repainted and use the metal bolt-in valve stems with the OEM lugnut covers to prevent corrosion on the lugnuts.

Thanks! I'll check that out and keep in mind the model year. Didn't know that! Love this forum!

Do you have 15 or 16 inchers? 15 would give you more steel choices and a taller tire which works great in snow, so long as they clear the brakes. Around here you can get heavy duty American-Racing style "musclecar rims" in white painted steel for ~$35/rim.

Actually it would be the front discs you'd have clearance problems with so you could conceivably fit 15s on the rear. That would make things somewhat squirrely though, particularly if the rear tires were narrower than the fronts.

Craigslist. Perhaps it was easier to find wheels for my son's 92 F150 as most people seem to want either big or low profile tires on trucks, but we found a set of 7 OEM steels wheels and a set of OEM alloy wheels (evidently forged Alcoa), either for a lot less than new Chinese wheels that one usually finds.

Sorry to bother you man. Just don't read the thread or waste time typing an answer if its such a problem for you.

Fact is, of the 4 salvage yards I called near me, none had any. Zero were available. C.L. nada. So, if I end up having to pay shipping anyway, as there don't seem to be any in my local pick-up area, I was asking here for suggestions. Also, if you read some of the actual useful replies, I can only use a certain range of years which further limits my options.

I hope reading that wasn't too much of a hassle for you.

Why are you making this so difficult?

I'd check out summitracing.com , look up cragar 'smooth 8' wheels. large size selection, up to 17" IIRC, gloss black painted steel, economical too.
