The local Wal-Marts over here have a layer of dust on their bottles and jugs of 10w40 thick enough to grow a garden on, yet they have about 50 facings of 10w40, while all empty facings for 5w20 sit behind price tags.
The 5w20 Motorcraft sells out faster than they can get it on the shelves. I've been hoping to get lucky for a month so I can buy some. I saw Castrol GTX 5w20 in 5 Qt jugs a little over a week ago, but didn't feel like waiting in line. I went in about three days later and it was completely sold out.
The problem isn't that 5w20 doesn't sell. The problem is their sales figures are goofed up because they just are stocking enough of it, thus people are buying the other weights.
It is the same at Autozone. They have a total of about two facings there, which again, are empty.
The exception is the $6.80 a quart synthetics.
The really frustrating part of this is these places had about three times as many facings of 5w20 a year ago.
