Since WM stopped carrying Motorcraft filters I am not sure where to find them at a good price. I think they used to be around $3.97 each at WM. Where do folks purchase their genuine Motorcraft filters?

You get them at pretty much any parts store. But I will be honest with you. It is not going to be for 3.97 a filter.
I still see them at my local WM, for a while they did go away but are back, AZ seemed to have similar pricing.
Yeah, I understand they are available at some auto parts stores, but I would prefer not to pay through the nose if possible. Last night, just for kicks, I asked at my friendly neighborhood CarQuest what their equivalent was to the FL1A and their price was $15 and change for the CarQuest blue! Seems a bit steep. I've got an old diesel engine that takes the equivalent of the FL1A and I was using Motorcrafts on it, plus I used to use the FL820S on my Grand Marquis. I may have to consider switching to something else.
I'm going to go ahead and state the obvious and say: a Ford dealer.

I suppose I could bite the bullet and try that, but our local dealer has been so inept and unpleasant the few times I have been there that it would be painful to give them business. Last time I was there, for a recall repair, they botched the job so badly that it failed in a month, so I fixed the problem myself.

I wish motorcraft oil filters where under $5.15 at my local parts stores autozone included.
Last time I checked on Saturday, the WalMart closest to me still had Motorcraft oil filters.
Some of the less common numbers will only be stocked by a dealer, especially the filters for competitive make applications.

What about AAP? Not sure which MC filter you need, but FL-820s are $2.99 + tax when bought in a lot of 10 and using the "A123" code at checkout online. I paid $3.26 per filter last time I did this...
I like the OEM ford/champion filters better in my 2.3dohc than the MC/Pur-O-Later.

I think you're assuming the Auto Parts stores are going to soak you. I've been in 3 within the last two weeks, (O'Reilly's, AZ and AAP) and all were selling Motorcrafts for about 4 bucks.

You can't. Champion makes them exclusively for Ford factory installation...unless you have a REAL good buddy at Ford.

yup some of those so called stealer techs should not be anywhere near a car... i see them a lot picking up parts all the time for the shop... i saw one of their top mechanics adjust the passenger door on a nissan by slamming it real hard with thick cardboard stuck in the jam... three or four times and it was fixed sort of...im suprised the window did not break

If you are talking about the gray, ummarked factory original filter, sometimes you wouldn't want one on your car. If your car would be under warranty and you take it to a dealer for work, a Barney Fife tech could snitch on you and the shop foreman would probably enter into the OASIS computer system that you are still running the factory oil filter. (at 20K or 30K miles)
