Where to buy GC?

Please, everyone that is interested in this oil, do a search and find a thread with pictures of the bottles...there was one post (I can't remember who posted it) that even showed the label variations between earlier and later batches. If you look at those you should have NO trouble identifying the right stuff.
Yankee, I'm certain any Autozone would be glad to order it for you. A problem is, however, I believe the UPC codes may be the same. Since everything is UPC driven, they don't know what will be delivered, USA or German stuff.
I expect the USA Castrol will be going the way of the dinosaur and all stocks will eventually be GC.

The "green2" photo, located at http://home.comcast.net/~dsmphotos/gc/4.jpg makes me think that one should never leave this glass of green splendor on a countertop come March 17th. I pity the man who mistakes his green Warsteiner for GC.
Something to think about.Castrol stoped makeing the 0w30 here in the USA cause it didnt sell very well.Cheaper to import it than keep making it.Now that we are all buying the 0w30 it will probuly be cheaper for them to start making it here in the USA again.So im thinking GC will be going way of the dinosaur.quote:

Thought about it, but nah, I think SLX (GC) will be their mainstream competing product. They have to counter/compete with M1 0W-40 in N/A. They will keep the other Syntec's 5-30, 10-30, etc. to compete with M1 in domestic and Japanese carsquote:

A couple of thoughts to add.
1) I don't mean to sound unduly negative, critical, or disrespectful, but the guys who work at AZ are essentially clueless about GC. Ignore them, and look for the red label, "Made in Germany" stuff. If your store has it, great, if not, you're just out of luck at that location. If they pester you with their usual, "can I help you" drivel, (absurd since they can't), just tell them you use green motor oil in a cult virgin sacrifice ritual -- that will be effective in running them off.
2) Don't bother with asking them to order -- the UPC is the same for both the US and German product, so you're just rolling the dice.
3) Just found a huge cache of the M0409 batch at the AZ closest to my house, and grabbed six qts. Coincidentally, yesterday in New Orleans, I found six qts of the oldest stock I've seen to date (M0300).
4) Mods/Admins, here's a radical idea: maybe we just need to set up a new separate sub-forum for German Castrol Matters. It is fascinating to me, and obviously to some others as well (ummmmm, pscholte comes readily to mind here. . . ), but I sense that othere members may be tiring of our obsession.

Thanks for offer but I havn't checked in the larger area Autozones in Springfield, Il yet. I only checked our local small town store. I will post when I check it out. Thanks! The next question is will GM void warranty if I use a 0w30 weight Castrol in my new 5.3L engine??
Absolutely NO!!! There is no such thing as "voiding" a warranty. The dealer or the car company can say what they will, but the wty is a statutory "contract" that attaches when you buy the car. Once covered, you make individual "claims" when you bring your car in for covered repairs. If the dealer/mfr wishes to deny a claim, they bear the burden of proving that something you (or someone else) did caused the claimed defect. This would be nearly impossible in the case of GC use. Also, let's say you add a 50 psi turbo to your engine (yes, yes, I know that's silly, stay with me for a moment), and predictably, the engine blows up shortly thereafter. Yes, they will succeed in denying your claimed engine repair, but the wty is still in effect, NOT "void." If your door handle breaks the following week, that repair would be covered since your ill-fated turbo adventure can not be proven to have caused the door to fail.

GC shouldn't cause a problem with warranty issues, because chances are good that they won't do an oil analysis on the oil to see what type of oil it is anyhow.
But on the plus side, even if they did do an oil analysis, they still would think it's a 5w30 or 10w30 oil, since the viscosity of GC at 40C is similar to most 10w30 oils, and it's viscosity at 100C still puts it in the 30wt range (albeit on the high end) So they wouldn't have a leg to stand on there, since the oil would test out to be the proper viscosity. The only way I could see them denying a claim would be if they tested the oil and found out it was a 50 weight oil in there.

Went to Autozone today to buy GC but they don't have it. They do have Castrol Syn 0w30 but the bottle does not say made in Germany as I read it should. It does say on bottle that this oil is for America only and not for outside the U.S. The store manager told me that the Castrol they sell could not be any different from the German variety. Walmart does not stock it either! Suggestions?
I had to try a few Auto Zones before I found the german formula. I would suggest using their store locator to check around your area.
I will go back and check but I'm sure it said made in U.S.A. However, I don't think it had a red label. I will report back! Thanks!
