Need to service the transmission in my '97 Sexpedition. I'll need like 13 qts of Mercon. Anyone know where to get some for cheap? I think Costco might have some, but I did notice I never seem to see it on sale... The stuff is pricey compared to oil.
Thanks

You won't find anywhere cheaper than Costco. Only like $26 or so for a case of Chevron fluid. (3 gallons) Wasn't that long ago it was only $12/case....*sigh*

I just bought a case of Chevron motor oil there for $21, cheapest price I could find anywhere else was $2.59/quart. It was just $11 a couple years ago...

Ok... I'll try Costco... hate Wal [censored].
ps... you'd think after 180k miles I'd put a drain plug in that thing! What a mess it is to drain!

I'm not too impressed with ST ATF at the moment...

Pennzoil Dex/Merc ATF I've had good luck with, and it's pretty cheap at Pep Boys.

Any Mercon V will do. But you probably won't need the full 13 quarts unless you plan to do a flush. A drain/fill will only net you about 5-7 quarts probably.

why not? i use it with pretty good results.

ST Mercon V has work great. I used it both my 2000 and my 2001 F150. Zero issues and both transmissions shifted smoother after I swapped the factory fill with ST. My 2001 had 115k before I did the first transmission fluid change.

It's been shifting harder and more erratically in my 66,000 mile 4T65 unit. The ST Dex/Merc went in around 60k miles. It replaced some Pennzoil Dex/Merc put in there around 35k miles. I'm going to give the ST Dex-VI a whirl in a few weeks, see if that clears up my shifting issues.

the thing that throws me off with st atf is, it does not smell like old mercon/dextron III. even though it says on the bottle for cars served by mercon/dextron III?

i guess when mercon/dextron III lost its license everbody changed the formula a little?
