We change the air filter about every 10-12,000 miles in our Honda (intake seems sensitive to airflow restriction). Lots of dirty air here in the Northeast, have to wipe out the air filter housing every now and then.

Once a year or 15,000 miles whichever comes first and use Wix air filters. I use Wix filters for air and oil.

According to the gas usage book I keep, the mileage begins to drop off at 7,000 miles. I change the PCV valve and filter at 7K miles.

Manufactures recomendation of 30-36,000 miles. Never noticed any difference in measured mileage after changing.

Manufacturers recommend a lot of things. In part, their recommendations apply to new cars. As the car accumulates a lot of miles, more care is required. Perhaps they should offer recommendations for older cars. Of course, they recommend you buy another of their cars when the one you have wears out while following the recommendations

. According to my gas book, my car does indeed begin to lose MPGs if I don't change the air filter at around 7,000 miles. Now with 223,000 miles on it, it runs like new, averages over 43 MPG on the highway, no oil burn and no leaks.

it depends on how dusty the air is where you live. I go 30k miles on paper but my air filters don't look that bad compared to photos of air filters posted here.

Mine even told me replacing the MT fluid was unnecessary. I dropped the OEM fluid and replaced w/ Redline MT90 @ 11K miles. Needless to say, the manufacturer was wrong, at least in my eyes.

Fluids are cheap. Filters are cheap. Replacing cars is not.

I should start a line of filters.

Sell 'em cheap but sell 'em often.

Old Coot brand filters will use evidence based upon emerging clinical studies (Coot Clinic) that suggest your car or truck will die a horrid death and may result in loss of life if filters are not changed every 3,000 miles.

Most importantly, Old Coot filters will come in a variety of designer colors to enhance the user's pleasure while driving.

Buy now and save!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back in the old days of carburetors, it seems like air filters were visually more dirty than today.

I drive in a dusty environment and change air filters every 15K. Visually, they look not too bad. Hold them up to a high intensity lamp and there is a difference compared to a new filter.

This is what astounded me. By accident, in a dark room, I bumped my 15K, "good looking" filter against that flood lamp and I couldn't believe the cloud of nano-dust particles that came out.

Appearance can be deceitful. Yet, there is also the crowd that says a partially loaded filter traps dirt better.
