Well the dart has 350 miles on it chrysler says 300 miles to break it in. Should i change it early ? If so when? Thanks everyone.

This is gonna' create some discussion...

I would change it early. Makes me feel better. I've bought one new car in my life (a 2000 Ford Expedition) and I changed it to M1 5w30 at exactly 500 miles.

Arguments exist on both sides, particularly where some manufacturers (Honda) specifically caution you NOT to change it early. But since Dodge doesn't prohibit it, it would make me feel better to do so at any time between now and 1,000.

If the oil filter gets EVERYTHING out, then all those sub-20-micron shards of metal from the machining marks can't hurt your internal wear surfaces.

Are oil filters absolutely perfect? Are oil film thicknesses always abouve 20 microns? No and No.
Do you want more metal particles circulating around your engine?

Those are the questions that individuals need to answer for themselves. Some folks believe in perfect oil filters and they think circulating metal pieces are good for your engine.

I just changed the FF on my wife's 2016 Outback at 782 miles and the UOA showed nothing crazy going on. I would still change it by 1000 miles just because it looked pitch black and I don't want the extra stuff floating around in there, if it was good the oil would be make with Iron, Copper and Silicon already in it!

The car cost how much? Oil change costs how much? I go 300 to 500 miles on first oil change and again at 1500 miles, after that it depends on how car/truck is driven. Wife's Equinox 2.4 every 5-6 months no matter what the mileage/OLM says, too many short trips. The RAM work truck, 5000 mile free dealer OCI's with I guess Dexos blend oil.
I'm too old school and you ain't gunna change me, period. 10K OCI"s...........no way for me.

No, don't change it.
Not for technical reasons, but because you are ram_man and inevitably 10 more issues are going to come up with your car for which you are going to be going back to your dealer for.

Cars rust out long before any oil-related failure. Are you rust proofing them as well?

When I bought my new car in 2000 I did the following:

1st OCI at 500-550 miles
2nd OCI at 2500 miles
3rd OCI at 5000 miles then I followed the owner's manual

I will be doing the same as above when I buy a new 2016 SUV (Acura RDX AWD) next month.

Don't forget to buy a grease gun and grease the joints on every OCI.

The black in Subaru FF is moly from the assembly lube. But I am an early changer as well. If assembly lube was so great for an already run in engine, oil engineer would be putting it in the oil you buy at the store.

Change now or later, it doesn't matter. Do what you want asking others questions like this makes you look foolish. Watch some football and grow a pair. Lol

It depends on your location. My car could go 5 million miles over a period of 150 years and it wouldn't have a speck of rust on it where I live. I'm being serious.

Are you changing the oil yourself? If so do it and report If there are metallic swirlies in the oil pan.
