Hey everyone,
So the mechanic quoted mw a price of around 900-1,000 dollars today to replace Wheel bearings. How much should this repair cost? Seems like way to much money. Its a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Will replace right rear and left rear only.

Sounds a lot.

Is he replacing just the bearing or the entire hub.

Don't know much about Grand Cherokees but have heard on other vehicles that if you leave worn bearings for too long you have to change the hub.

Or this mechanic might be pulling your trousers down!

I know thats what im thinking, being as I replaced front axles and cv boots in front last year and that only ran me $400

He's taking you for a ride, IMO. Your Jeep has either the Dana 35 or Aluminum Dana 44a, both of which should be retained bearing axles.

The kit's are about $60-$70 a side depending on where you get them.

Even it the parts are $200, at $100 / hour it should not take 8 hours to do. I can typically do a pressed bearing axle at a moderate pace in a couple of hours.

Send Steve White Motors (Chrysler dealer) an email with your VIN and what you want. He will tell you what axle you have and a discounted price for Jeep parts. I get stuff all the time for my Dodge and Jeep.

If its labor intensive it may pay to use OEM parts.

That's way out of line unless it needs axles too. I had all new bearings installed in a ford 8.8" rear end for $400 and they did the carrier bearings too.
