Seriously.

Much like the price of gas this shows the disparity across the country. Milk in this area is as high as $5.60 or so, walmart is $3.50-4.00. I'm sure I could find it higher but none lower.

Bill isn't that Albertson's? I haven't been in a Smiths in so long.

$3.36 for 1% @ Wal-Mart
$3.59 for 1% @ Schnuck's

A couple of places have it on sale for $2.50 a gallon this week.

A 4L jug of milk at the store I go to costs me $4.49 with tax. We go through about 8L of milk a week in our house.

Around $3.80+/- around these parts.

Milk is one item that falls under an odd economic term.

Variable supply and non-elastic demand.

Seems the checks got lost in the mail.

That's why most price controls were first instated. Milk is such an oddity. No one is going to drink more of it if you make it cheaper ..nor are they likely to drink any less of it if it gets more expensive ..no one is going to stop buying the bread and other products that it goes into..etc..etc.. If it gets too expensive ..and dairy farmers respond with more dairy cows ..they end up with a glut and lose money.

We need a milk lake and a butter mountain like they have in some places.

I actually try to add some elasticity to milk demand... Buy gallons when it's cheap, half gallons when expensive. That's it for the week.

It's coming down; about $3.60/gal after a high over $4.

I usually buy it right from the farm in glass reusable jugs, it's right on my way to work so no gas wasted doing so. Used to be cheaper too.

Prob is. I go there only to get a gallon of milk as its close to the house. Other than that, never shop there. The prices are higher than any place else.
