What's the fastest you've ever driven?

The fastest I've driven is 125 mph (indicated) in a '92 Dodge Daytona IROC V6, 5 spd. It hit the speed limitter and shut down. This speed was reached on a very flat, ND highway. (My parents lived on a ND farm until last year). I no longer have a location to check top speeds:(. My '97 turbo Talon would have been faster, but I never got the chance to check it out.

Loc: Silicon Valley 500mph in the economy class in a 747

Holy [censored] thats scary, you were driving a 747 from the economy class section???

The fastest I could get my 57 Chevy was 85 mph, pedal to the metal for a few miles. It was the 235cid L6 with the 2-spd powerglide. With the pedal to the floor, my vacuum-operated wipers were useless.

But if you're driving in conditions in which you actually NEED the wipers, would it be wise to have a 57 Chevy floored in the first place???

I once represented a crotch-rocket guy who saw 180 mph the last time he actually dared to look... Alas, as has been said many times before, the bike may have been fast, but nowhere near as fast as radio waves. Y'all know how that story ended.

Actually, this was a prior car, which happened to be a V-6 Camry. Yeah, that 3.0L Toyota engine is a real dynamo.

In San Diego years ago I got a ticket for speeding which stated '110 mph +' on a Suzuki GS1100, as that is what the CHP topped out at. I told them that I didn't know they were back there and wasn't trying to outrun them as I had slowed down to 65 mph for a few miles to get off of the freeway. They believed me as they were topped out and said I would just disappear while playing with a Mercedes, and that I could have easily gotten away if I had wished. The ticket ended up only being $70.

The key with bikes is the acceleration as it would do 120 mph in the 1/4 mile and top out at about 140 mph, fast for a heavy 1983 bike, and the new ones can hit over 140 mph in the 1/4 mile and top out up to 180 to 190 mph. I did outrun cops by slowing down to almost a stop until they were about 10 car lengths behind and then nailing it, assuming it was too far to read my plates, and looking back they were always so far behind I couldn't tell if they were even trying to catch up. You can't count on speed over distance as they can floor it and just let it run, and they have radio (they set up a road block for the Mercedes mentioned above).

An ex father-in-law retired from the CHP and he said the big, old Mopar cruisers were good for 150 to 155 mph, fast enough to run down the V8 Ferraris of the day. He said he'd just sit on their tail until they finally pulled over, and then tell them that he didn't know those Japanese cars could go so fast :^)
