What stealerships actually do!

Absolutely 100% on the mark. Decades ago I swore off ever setting foot in a new car stealership after having experienced several horrible, yet typical, new car ripoffs. Purchase used cars from the owners and save lots of money and grief.

You aren't 100% helpless to franchises. I called two states over and got a super low bid on my latest car, the golf, paid $400 for a transporter to bring it to my business, then paid only the regular state sales tax and tags once it arrived. None of the Utah dealers thought it was a good idea to have a manual sportwagen in stock or on order, so i extended my radius and ended up saving a lot of money. I did miss the fun little pony show in the finance room where the guy tries to power sell you even when he sees you are a well educated car enthusiast who knows better.

This is the same problem Tesla is having in some locations. The laws are built to require the dealer in several states.

It is likely a law due for changing or removing. We do seem to have all sorts of trouble removing laws anymore. We've gotten better at just making it more complex.

I agree.

I well remember the first time setting foot on a car dealers lot in North America, I had a little backgrond in Point of sale marketing, and the set-up made me very uncomfortable.
But as the video states, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE.

Unless you buy used, which I do.

Even then. Last your in our local paper there was a 'Paid Feature' advising of the possible pitfalls of buying a car privately, it was obviously designed to scare people.

In this part of the world we are told we are 'Free' why do we put up with this garbage?

I have said it for years the method for buying cars is the last bastion of lack of competition bordering on monopolism. Oh sure, there are multiple dealers for the same brand in most cities, but are they REALLY competitive? With that said, there are still some that have not gone to the "supersales" realm using a "recipe" to sell you a car whereas the actual deal is not really made until you hit the finance office and that is after they run you through two or three "gadget guys" attempting to up sell accessories or services. It should be as simple as clicking the boxes as you do when you "build" your car on the manufacturers website except it needs to be attached to an "Amazon".

Another "Bash the Dealers" thread.........................these are almost tiring as undeservedly bashing companies on the Internet.

Has there been a Police bash thread in awhile? This place has always had a "cops can do no wrong" kind of attitude.

They can only bend you over if you let them.
The internet is the purchasers friend. One can do their homework and have a pretty good idea what the dealer has in the car. Knowledge is power.
Never fall in love with a car. There are at least as many cars as there are rear ends to fit in the seats. You don't like their talk, it is simple. You walk.
E-mail is the way to buy a car. Last car I bought, I sent out e-mails to dealers within a 200 mile radius of where I live. I saved $1200.00 over the best bid I could get locally plus I got mudflaps, side moldings, and a spoiler that was not included in the car offered locally. It cost me 3 hours on the road round trip, but that was a good payback. They played no games, I was in, out, and on the road in 20 minutes.
It is simple, you have the money and they need the sale. Unless it is an emergency situation, the ball is in your court. Play it that way.

Guess I have been lucky in that most of my new car purchasing experiences have not been too bad. Just like the salesman is trying to be 'my friend', I do the same with him. He asks me about my family. I ask him about his. When we see an interesting car, he tells me a few things about it and I proceed to politely and respectfully teach him a few things about his vehicle (because I have already done hours of research on the interwebz). When it comes time for negotiations, I point at the picture of his family on his desk and tell him I understand he needs to make a little profit to feed his family. I tell him I do not mind leaving a little meat on the bone. By this time the saleman may have already spent 2-3 hours with me, so I am perfectly fine with him making a fair commission. I already know the dealer cost, hold back, and all the incentives that are available. I just expect honesty in our dealings. Always has worked for me. Sure....they will offer me up-sells, but when I politely decline, the respect is such that they do not push the issue.

Dealers deserve to be bashed. 99% are slimy, greasy weasels that would happily sell their children if offered enough cash and would rip off anyone for an extra nickel.

I would have flown to state and drive it home, makes for a nice road trip.

Off topic u wanker.

Sure, the dealerships deserve a lot of the bashing they get. But please, let's give credit where it's due!

The politicians pass these laws. Why? Greed mostly. They want the sales tax revenue AND they want the political donations. It's called Crony Capitalism. It warps and dirties everything it touches and it's certainly not limited to car dealerships!

But, who elects, (and re-elects over and over again), the pols?

WE DO!

So, I guess my point is, we're all to blame. It won't change until we're willing to change it, starting with new crops of politicians.

Oh! Look! I made a funny!

Bash the dealers is an easy "bash topic".

He was given a solution-agreed to it then came on here and bashed the company in question. So now he is picking a "safe" bashing topic which most will agree with.

Let's get dirty then.

I bet you are the one who created the account.

Anyway, I'll have you know that I don't check the computers forum.

-Why didn't your CSR contact me earlier? Bad customer service isn't it?

-Why not investigate before making any assumptions? h311 NO it is always the customer's fault.

-Why not come up with a solution instead of blaming the customer?

A screen doesn't simply bleed after running it for 12 hours.

My time is not worth $80 but sure as h311 won't let a fraudster get away with it.

Also why didn't "Ellie" private message me instead?

Right because they don't want to come up with a solution.
