What NEW cars have your attention?

QP you might be on to something. It does look a lot like an Acura.

I like ThirdYe's choices, except I probably would rather have a normal looking S2000. The spoiler looks like one of those ricers that are about to lift off.

And I'll add the Altima coupe, G35 coupe, and pretty much any BMW.

2008 Ford Focus with gas mileage on par with Civics and Corollas. Build quality is up and the prices are good.

Probably not, but did the fact that the gas prices tripled in the last 8 years stop many people from buying uneconomical vehicles? Not really. Gas bills as a percentage of income are still low enough not to matter much. It's like salt... if the price of kitchen salt increased 3 times, would it cause you to suddenly use less of it?

Maybe not . . . but salt runs about, what, $1.50 a Morton's can? So $4.50 would be no big deal. But $120 a month sure is!

Benz, I know. I am just saying, the gas prices aren't yet high enough for people to seriously turn away from gas guzzlers here. It's a cost they're willing to swallow.

Styling cliches that should not be repeated are being used over and over again...Toyota has fully adopted BMW's Bangle butt. A lot of designs just seem kind of lost. Ford is in some kind of endless search for a "family look;" GM is into making very large blobs, like the Acadia & twins everyone likes so much. Chrysler cars are all going for a seriously overdone "edgy/cool" look I suppose to make up for the 90s. I think the Accord is actually kind of attractive, but some parts look like they could interchange directly with a BMW. The Civic is looking kind of bloated though. Maybe I'm stuck in the '90s-early '00s, but I don't think I should have to cringe at the majority of new cars and say "well, maybe it will grow on me."

The new Fords look classy IMO. They also look better IRL than in the advertising photos. I think they're the only one of the Big 3 who has consistantly good styling. GM seems to be wandering with some nice styling and some not. Chrysler has 2 kinds of vehicles. The fish look or the bulldog pickup truck look but with one shared trait - Ugly.

The only 2 vehicles I'm interested in right now are Buster's choice, a new Mustang, or a Nissan Z.

I'll have one next year, probably the Ford...

It looks like we are in an age where there are a lot of good choices, one for anyone's budget and taste. Besides all the stock choices the custom car market is boombing. We did a twin-turbo installation on a V12 7 Series BMW for a gentleman that had an obscene budget and no taste. We did the conversion at less than a thousand miles. The engine work was not the bad taste part. It was the offset 13” diameter wheels with spinners added. You can change the speed of the spinners to suit your mood. Also you can change the neon lights on the spinners and in the wheel wells, too. The home entertainment center and video screens were a little over the top, too. The car has air suspension with two titanium strips underneath. When you lower the car all the way down on the freeway you have a 6 thousand pound sparkler. A lot of weight was added with the scissor doors and the trunk lid with the build in screen, bullet resistant glass and interior panels.. The base car was about $120k and the add-ons were about $250k more. The alpaca fur carpeting is really cool but I think it will be difficult to keep clean. It’s white. The Connolly glove leather on the seats and door panels and the head liner looks and feels great. You really sink into the seats. I did not like the purple leather inserts but the guy that did the leather thought is was a good idea because it doubled the cost of labor. The interior was completely gutted and done over. One good idea was putting the navigation system on a 23” touch screen, made it really easy to see. This car may not be available at your local BMW dealership but it’s proof that you can get anything you want if you can afford it.

I do think the Fusion is a nice looking car, though with the rapid change happening with midsize cars, it will probably need to be freshened up soon to stay competitive.

I do like the Mustang as well, but that likely has to do with the fact that it is a copy of a '69-'70 one.

In general though, I am dissapointed in what I am seeing. SUVs have all turned into giant, neutral colored amoebas. I thought they looked much better when they resembled the pickups they were based on. Blobs don't do it for me. Sedans kind of lost. You get to choose between either boring or hideous, with a handful of exceptions. Classy and sophisticated are no longer options in most cases. Pickups are just getting absolutely rediculous looking. Everybody is going for the massive snout look. I immediately liked the 1999 Super Duty, 1999 GM Twins, and 1997 F-150 when I first saw them. Not so much with the trucks that followed them.

That's just me, but I am still one less person who will buy a new car in the near future. I'm sure the automakers would love for me to open up my wallet at a new car dealer, but until they make something I really feel like I must have, I won't do it. If the Explorer is totalled in a wreck, I will replace it with another used Explorer (2001 or older) or a Bronco.

What happens then, when there are plenty of affordable cars out there with performance, longevity and killer good looks? Suddenly, there's no need to compromise anymore.

The Taurus (500) is nice looking car too IRL. Too bad for Ford the market for a larger 4 door sedan is not what it once was.

Couldn't agree more with the last statement.

The GF and I have been looking at a lot of cars lately. She hasn't kept up much so she was stunned when she realized how bad the current stying trends are. There are lots of vehicles with great mechanics but few that are cosmetically nice in our opinion.

I've decided the big snout look is the "tailfin" of our age. In 20-40 years people will look back and say "[censored]!, what were they thinking. Those things are U-G-L-Y."

The Mustang is clean and nice. And it's the kind of car I want to replace my old one so it'll probably get the nod...

If the current Mustang is a retro car, what will the next model look like? Same with the Mini. At least with the Mini they did a modern version of the Traveler. The pictures look great.

I wonder where they are going from here? The 09's get a face lift.

Ford has always kept some level of family resemblance in the Mustang, even if it is with the smallest styling cues like split tail lights and symmetrical dashes. You do have to wonder what the next step will be with such a retro car though. Hopefully they will not duplicate the '71-'73 Mustang and '74-'78 Mustang II after this body style!
