What Might Cause Consumption in Extended OCI

seems to be a trend.

My brand new mustang consumed oil during the end of the FF at 5500 mi. And then again at the end of a 16k mi OCI on German Castrol.

The oil consumption goes from undetectable to about a 1/2 to a quart in the last 2-3 k miles.
 
I actually use the oil consumption to tell me when to change the oil on my oldest fleet truck.

It uses nothing until the last few hundred miles before the OLM goes on, generally about 4400 miles and 240 hours or so of stationary ops.

I'm certain it is due to fuel dilution, our GM 6.0 gassers almost always have a couple of injectors that are too generous at high miles...
 
I wouldn't think consumption would be any greater at a 7500 mile OCI vs a 15,000 mile OCI in comparison. If you consume say .25 quarts at 7500, expect to consume at least .5 quarts at 15,000. Just check your oil and add when needed.

I personally enjoy changing my oil so I cant say I agree with your decision only for that reason.

My reason for asking this question is that while I'm considering switching to M1 EP 0w20; and I'd like to go 15,000 miles per OCI, I'm not interested in doing so if it means that I'll have to start adding top-up oil during the OCI.

The only thing that will cause increased oil consumption will be oil thinning.
You're already using very thin oil now.
If your contemplating longer OCI's then you would be well advised to validate the longer period through UOA's. Regardless of what brand/type of oil your using or contemplating using.

If extending the OCI's is your ultimate goal, then you possibly need to look at oils which are well known to go the distance.

Well, at $25.17 for 5 quarts of M1 0w20 EP at Walmart, which is the same price as my Walmart is charging for 5 quarts of PP 0w20 (my current oil in the Insight), I decided it was definitely worth a go. So, I bought a 5 quart jug. I'll be putting the rest of my PP 0w20 stash into the Insight in about a month. And I'll start my M1 EP run sometime in late summer.
