What is your excuse ? BITOG avg quarts

To save $$.

My average oil change for 6 quart truck, 4 quart Toyota or 4 quart Subaru incl filter is around $5 total.

My next oil change with syn for the Subaru will cost $6.50 incl filter.

When oil is on sale, I see *if* I can use it within 4-5 years and buy it.

I had almost 500 quarts in the stash, well below that number now. The people in my family love saving the $$ too.

Take care, Bill

I've completely stopped hoarding oil. Oil has simply lost the 'magic' feeling that it used to have to me. I have a grand total of 3 qt's. of oil in my garage.

Lots of cars in the family, and the oils I like are hard to find.

And when I saw Pennzoil Platinum and Valvoline Synpower on sale for $1.00 I stocked up.

So the stash is around 200 qts +.

I'm just crazy about motor oil.

Actually started stashing SL to avoid SM, but then a couple years ago the AutoZone clearance deals were too good to pass up. Ever since I am a sucker for an oil deal.

I've been purchacing my oil at the close out prices of about .49 cents/qt for dino and around a $1.00/qt for syn. I have learned which oils are better than others for the money(when paying full price) here at BITOG but, price isn't the issue the way that I buy oil. If there are no close out prices on oil, I'll look for Pep Boys adds for Penz Plat or any name brand dino cheap after rebate. I've had as many as 80 qts of oil at one time but currently have about 37-40 qts. Im always searching!

I just purchased 4 qts QS 4x4 SUV synthetic blend for 60 cents each and 5 quarts Valvoline Premium Conventional for 69 cents each (after rebate).

I just cannot pass up such oil deals.

I have 165 quarts and that is after giving away 7 gallons last week.

I started to do it for a bit when I got onto this site, and at one point had about 15 quarts of oil stocked. But I only drive one car, (4.2 quarts), and have it changed about once every 3 months, so even that amount was well over a year of oil, as it doesn't use much.

I dont change my oil myself b/c of where I live, and often I will have the oil changed when having other work done to the car, so that 'years worth' of oil becomes a lot more sitting around, just gathering dust. Also, the place I live is a condo with relatively little storage space, so using it to store oil I 'may' have installed in 'a year or so' just didn't make sense, even to a compulsive BITOG member like me. My wife occassionally pointing out that I was 'storing oil that I was going to have installed at a lube place that sells oil' kinda sealed the deal.

So I'm down to one gallon jug of Pennzoil 5w30, and about 1.5 litres of Havoline 10w30 (SJ) I use as top-off. It gets installed in about 2 weeks or so, and then I'm done with 'stashing'. If I want to use a specific oil, I'll buy it before the change.......

Even with that said, I still cringe when I see great oil sales I don't take advantage of.....

:S

Well, I live in Louisiana and it felt like a thrid world country down here after Katrina/Rita (or even more so). I started just putting it back when I found it on sale. I have VERY FEW qts that I paid full price for except for Supertech. BOGO, closeouts, and all or nothing offers to AAP managers got me my stash.

Well for 152 of my 198 quarts I couldn't pass up a good sale.

The other 46 were free ater rebate!

I'm not buying anymore (except FREE deals

) until I get below 50 quarts.

My excuse is needing as much oil as I can in-stock so my customers will have a choice.

1,041qts plus a drum of Schaeffer 9000
My stash really does not count since it all is a part of my shop's supplies but I still enjoy walking in and seeing it all on the shelves.

So, like I said " He who dies with the most qts. wins" so , today who wins ?!

My stash surpassed 130 qts last night ( scored another 24 qts of Mobil 7500 at $0.95/QT ), not counting the odd 5qt container half full and such.

It mostly covers the next 40K of driving for the mini-van, I'll still working on building up a supply for the motorcycles and other 2 cars.
