What is the cheapest oil available for purchase?

I have two gallons from my last X3 + lawnmower drain. You have to come to MD and pick it up though.
I'm waiting for my flight from Phoenix to JFK via Fort Lauderdale because that's how the algorithm re-booked me after the plane broke on the ground, so don't think for a second that distance makes you safe ;)

So it would be much less trouble for me if I could find the cheapest of the cheapest oil around a similar price, buy it, and just return that back. Would save me the trouble of negotiating, pouring used oil from the recovery container, clean it, etc.

I'll probably still go down the rabbit hole of figuring out how to make it look used, but that's for another day.
Does AutoZone in your city collect used motor oil?
If yes, then just take a couple/few hours a day and hang around the entrance of any AutoZone and if somebody stops buy to dump used oil, just tell them "Hey, may I have your oil?".
Most people will probably bring it in in 5qt jugs, but prepare a couple of your own because some people may bring their oil in those plastic pans.

Or just go to AutoZone and tell them you want to dump used oil. They always let me go back and dump it myself. So in that case, you will just grab a couple of 5qt jugs sitting around the big oil tank, that people left and walk out with them. :)

I know that the notion of triggering event has started as something useful and positive, but it has been so much sullied in the recent past that I'd tend to ignore it in a no BS, technologically oriented forum such as BITOG precisely.

I don't allow myself to get triggered without having all the information - no reason I see why I should be ok with others getting triggered by a simple title (which, again, is not mine - it was changed to this after referring to the forum's moderators).

That the oil I'm asking about would never be used in an engine is stated on line THREE of my initial post.

If someone couldn't get to read till that line before getting triggered - well, "I empathize" as Elizabeth Banks once said on Jimmy Kimmel.

Unfortunately, the thread title, itself, is the triggering event in this case.

View it as entertainment. Watching certain BITOGers get predictably triggered is part of the allure of this site.

No way, been called a thief and a scammer in this thread already 🤣
In this case you are not stealing. You just get the used oil people left for recycling. Nobody is harmed by that because neither the customers nor AutoZone paid for that used oil.

Ah, kind Sir, nope, technically it's the people's oil becoming Autozone's oil. At no point in time is it mine to take, unless I ask one or the other.

Eeeehhh...nope, but ok.

Not a joke. Legitimate question. There's a reason for my madness.

- Oil will never be used in an engine.
- Preferably - available in 5qt and 1qt. Larger containers might work, but no more than 5gal preferably.
- All it has to do is - look like used oil of any standard 4stroke viscosity.

You might have guessed it - there's a certain store I love to work with, where you can return the used (let's put that in bold for those who know to write but avoid reading 😊) oil you bought from them and get credit for the next purchase.
Sweet deal, but I hit the following bump:

- Most of the time I prefer to have my oil changed at my local oil place. They do a good job and it works for me.
- In the best of scenarios, the kids that work there will recover my used oil in a container I'd give them, then I'll drive home, pour it back in the original container and return it to the store. However, there's always a randomness to it - I have to hit the right day to get the right kid that would agree to do it. Plus, even when they do it, I'd feel bad if I don't give them an extra 10 bucks for their trouble.
- So for the half year when I don't do my oil changes myself - it still costs me a few bucks and some trouble to recover my used oil back.

So it would be much less trouble for me if I could find the cheapest of the cheapest oil around a similar price, buy it, and just return that back. Would save me the trouble of negociating, pouring used oil from the recovery container, clean it, etc.

Ideas ?
Thanks
Buy used oil from an employee of one store and take it to another store? That's a sad you lead, though.

Sad indeed. I watch that wall I repainted with melted grease i scraped off the subway tracks while chasing rats on the 4 line, sipping that beer i distill from all that oil I siphon off Peterbilt differentials on rest areas.

Please, pretty please, do analyze my life further?

if you watch the rebate deals on name brand oils you can get a great deal on it, or around Christmas time the black days have good pricing (stock up) , or if you are that low funded might be best not to drive your vehicle.

You did just read the title (which i didn't choose), then jumped to replying, right? ;)

Please. Tell me that's what you did.

I still believe in Humanity, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. Don't let me hanging. PLEASE confirm that's all you did.

I suggest offering to friends, family, and neighbors to take their used oil to a recycler for them. It'd be a convenience and service to them and help you too. I don't think there'd be anything dishonest about that.

OK why in the h%$#. would you do this ??

Come to SW Washington. You can have all my used motor oil. You'll have to drain it first though. While you're at it, could you please change my filter and dump in some new oil? Don't worry, I'll provide the filter and new oil. 🤣

My cousins probably have more used oil for you too.

We'll sip lemonaide 🍋 while you work. After you're done you can have some lemonaide too. 😁
