CASTROL® EDGE® with TITANIUM vs. Mobile 1 in different weights. What has the better base stock? What is best for a Turbo Eco-Boost engine in my Ford F-150 truck?

Thanks

Both use hydrowax/hydrocracked base stocks, and they make no claim otherwise. Flip a coin. Higher TBN, better additives, or certifications may lead you to what's "best".

Good points, then check the UOA section and look for your engine using Edge vs. Mobil 1. Hopefully you'll find some, then run a few of your own. Honestly establishing what's best for your engine is going to take a while, and what you will most likely discover is there is no best.

Honestly, I'd make it easy, and go for the oil with the best price. At least going that route you'll save money over the life of the car since you'll probably never notice a difference in engine life. JMO

Both are quality oils but the base stocks will be differant. All M1 oils are well know for long OCIs.

From the few UOA on the ecoboost that are out there, the Edge did better than the M1. Better TBN and rentention and lower wear metals. However, M1 is still a good choice. I'd run the Edge over M1 in my ecoboost due to the Edge leaving the least amount of deposits on the TEOST which is important on DI engines.

This is such a difficult question to answer because you want us to compare multiple brands AND multiple weights at the same time.

IIRC most EcoBoost motors need 5w20?

Cheapest, which would probably be the mobil 1.

Either oil will run an engine for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Not all. Most require 5w30.

I was very pleased with the Edge Ti I recently ran as well as the UOA, it stayed in grade very well and ran very, very quiet. I've not run Mobil 1 since SM was out but their EP products are interesting.

I've never been a fan of the Castrol brand, but their top tier synthetics are now very good. On par and in some cases better than Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 High Mileage since it has more Zinc and Phosphorus ~ 20% more. Mobil 1 HM is one of the most robust oils in their line up. They even have it in the 5W-20 weight.

And how can someone tell if one oil is better if they haven't used them over a long period of time. Run you engine for 200K with each oil and report back.

Castrol and their handle on deposit formation is likely better in a DI engine. Whether its better than Mobil its really hard to say. I don't like Mobil as a whole but if the price is right I'll buy and use it. I don't have any dislike f castrol and would use them first if all things were equal.
