I am genuinely curious about this. Customer claimed it just "happened" with no explanation. I have never seen anything like this except for someone driving on train tracks. The tire is a Michelin Latitude 245/60/18 104H is anyone is interested.

I came in on the tail end of this deal. My only involvement was pulling a new tire off the rack. She bought tires a few months ago and expressly denied the road hazard coverage. Of course she made such a huge scene, even though her denying it was in plain writing on her old invoice, they gave her a new tire. Only people hurt in all of this was parts dept losing a tire out of inventory and the tech that got to put it on gratis.

The vehicle was either an Edge or a Flex.

Looks to me like a lot of wheelspin over some type of thing. When I was running out of date Nokian Hakka snow tires on a Mustang I got stuck on a dirt road going up hill. After a lot of spinning and sliding I made it out. And the rear tires had wear VERY similar to your picture.

She knows exactly what happened! That is why she made a scene.

that's certainly NOT a tire defect. just goes to show that if you create enough noise..... you will get what you don't deserve

Going by that picture I would guess it was scraping up against something for a while and made lots of noise. My guess is rear tire, trunk loaded down with something heavy, tire rubbing on a bolt or something inside the fender.

To me, this looks like a drive tire that has spun on something sharp when they were stuck. So...was this a drive tire or just a follower?

Indeed fender rub..i have that on side of my summer tires..i need to roll the fenders..weird place to rub fenders..unless lowered alot and tires exceed fender alot...

All I remember is one of the service writers bringing this crazy cat lady in and she started yelling at me about her tire. I asked her to wait a second and let her yell at my manager. Once we established it was not a parts "issue" we walked her to the service manager and let her yell at him.

For some reason I have been nominated to babysit this tire until people at a higher pay level than I am at decide what to do with it. Invariably the instant I am over babysitting it and toss it in the tire pick-up pile they will come looking for it.

Good one. This was on a customer's car not mine thankfully.

O and before anyone has any thought about a lack of customer service on my end, I work what is called "back counter" parts. I only deal with the technicians and phone calls. Very rare that I do retail counter. The writers are told to not bring customers to the back counter, it is not as presentable as the front.
