2 ounces Redline SI-1 added to 10 gallons gas OR
3 ounces Lucas UCL added to 10 gallons gas

Which one should I go for? They just about cost the same for me. Looking for system cleaning and gas mileage (of course)

I have no experience with either one, so I have to vote for what I DO have experience with: FP60.

It gives me the system cleaning and gas mileage.

The redline only needs 1 ounce for ten gallons, and to much is sometimes a bad thing.

I would take the redline, as it is a great fuel system cleaner and advertises it self to be an upper cylinder lube too.

Lucas, cheaper and works very well. Only use 2oz per 10 gallons - anything over decreases economy, anything under is not worth doing. It's definitely a sweet spot concentration.

Wow I never knew the 3 ounces can be overkill...it says on the one quart bottle that 3 ounces should be used to treat 10 gallons. But 2 ounces does the job? Anyone, feel free to chime in with your personal opinions/experiences!

Test both 2 and 3 oz/10gal for the Lucas UCL. It may vary by car, mine seems to like the lower dose, but I have only tested the 3/10 dose once. And UCL should be much cheaper if purchased on sale for $6/qt or normal gallon price of ~$24/gallon.

I also had the same experience with the Lucas UCL. At the recommended dose, my mileage wasn't as good as it was more diluted.

I have been putting 2oz per almost 16 gallons of gas lately. And my mileage is as high as ever.

I will concur with the 1:600 or leaner crowd for the Lucas UCL on a continuous basis. I don't know if it is the best at lubing and cleaning all fuel system parts from fill neck to piston crown, but it seems to be doing an excellent job in my engines. I can notice a difference in injector and fuel pump sound, and in overall engine sound and feel. Piston crowns are trying to whiten.

Try 2oz per 10 gal for 10 tanks in a row and tell us how it works out.

^Yeah the more I here/read about the Redline SI-1 the more I'm interested in trying it. But then I read somewhere on this site that is degrades the nylon sock in the fuel tank, which scared me and has kept me from using it.

Honestly, I find it hard to believe considering how much praise it gets, and the fact that just about every redline product seems to be very high quality.

Redline SI-1, FP60, UCL, Techron, Valvoline Synpower CFSC... they're all good even if they are not identical, IMHO.

I'd also try Gumout Regane if I ever see it on the shelf.

I do like the idea of a cleaner with an upper cylinder lubricant... but I wonder whether ash could ever a be a problem on the upper ring.

I also am curious whether an ultra low dose of synthetic 2 stroke oil would also work, as a UCL?

Right now I use either Redline SI-1, FP60,or UCL every few tanks and in small doses. And Techron or Synpower CFSC once a year before an oil change.

I'd like to say that I was more disciplined than that, but I do what I can.

i too also wonder if fp60,neutra,redline si-1,lucas fuel sytem additives because of the oils that are in them leave burnt carbon deposits from these types of fuel additives in your engines?

Chevron/Techron complete fuel system (the 10 dollar bottle) Use a brand name gas, and do this additivie twice a year, and you will NEVER have a problem

I followed this link from a gas thread on Keropur:

"Gasoline additives need to be able to burn without forming their own residues."

im not a big additive fan but i did try techron and regane cleaners but saw no real improvement. maybe it was allready clean? i dont know how well they cleaned the sys nor felt/heard any improvement.

i purchased the lucas ucl $6.49 bottle on a whim and after a few tanks my mpg did come up in my tester/older escort using ucl. the 2oz/10gal is about what i use and it definetly gets better and more consistant mpg in the city and little better on the hwy. local big r carries it at $19/gal also now. i also tried it in my taco and 4runner with no improvement though. did it lube a aging fuel pump or clean/lube the injectors the per its claims.. i dont know. for the price it cant hurt to give it a try and see.
