Your kids into a top university where the connections and prestige opens doors.

A lighter prison sentence.

While real life can rankle....who among us is surprised this happens?

Anyone remember the episode of "Law & Order" where the mommy slept with school administrators in order to get her dull son into better schools?
Charges against the school admins resulted in no convictions. The family was humiliated throughout the process.
Then the boy killed himself by jumping off his building.
Real 'feel good' TV.

Right here is a good reason why I gave up on TV. Complete and absolute rubbish.

Pay for play been going on forever...some folks just caught now. Not defending it, just stating a fact. Likely many more that haven't been caught yet.

Schools have been more and more about money as time goes on. Tuition now costs at least 10X what it did when I went to school in the late 70s... considerably more than inflation would suggest. Why?

The link, for those who haven't watched the news in a few days: https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/pr/...ions-scam-alleged-exam-cheating-athletic

One of my favorite wealthy people quotes is " it's better to be rich and guilty rather than poor and innocent". My family learned this about 18 years ago when we had to get involved in the justice system for a brief interruption in our lives (I'm kinda likin' becoming an old curmudgeon, LOL. Gonna start driving around real slow just to P.O. people ).

Because they can. It boils down to 2 things. Too much emphasis put on college degrees in relationship to the current job market. Coupled with students with no financial common sense, or understanding of compound interest in regards to loans when they seek and apply for them. Along with late penalties. You end up with a bunch of kids who basically paid too much for something that is worth too little, in real world earning power...... Assuming they can even find a job at all when they get it.

Those wealthy Hollywood elites that bought their way through school are the same knuckleheads that consider themselves social and political scientists, climate change experts, tax wizards, experts in international affairs and all around geniuses who are entitled to dictate the public narrative usually grounded in the Radical Left. Many of them despise this country while exploiting it's resources. Shame on them.

The good fallout here is Hopefully I wont have to suffer through another " Garage Sale Mystery" on Hallmark channel that my wife always watches.

I'm actually not surprised this happens. Of course the assumption is that the students are not qualified to have gained enrollment but that's not always correct and here's why.

Universities have a good handle on the economy surrounding school districts. A student from a wealthy area may have the same test scores/qualifications as a student in a poorer district but universities will admit the poorer student because they know that the parents of the wealthy student spared no expense on their child's education AND that the student is ranked lower in his/her class.

Basically colleges/universities would rather choose a big fish in a comparatively small pond rather than a medium fish in a comparatively big pond even if both fishes are the same size.
