Dieseltech,

Anything special I should know about cleaning a turbodiesel engine?

I'm aware of the trouble spots on a gasser like the alternator and all electrical connections. Anything else I should watch for in routine and gentle/light pressure washing at the car-wash bays? Been doing this for years on my gas powered vehicles with no troubles.

Really most of the critical parts on the LMM are covered. Much like all engine avoid water at any electrical connections and alternator. Other then that take it easy with the water and use common sense when sprying.

Powerstrokes are a no go for water directly under the hood. The injector drive module does not like water at all. It turns into a 450.00 engine detail job real quick.

Dodges have 2 ECU's under the hood. 1 on the passenger side firewall and 1 on the driverside engine block.

Hope this helps Jim

My bike has no fairings so I just wash the bike and hit it with the same gentle car soap I wash the entire bike with...Mainly just the sides of the engine...Then when everything is dry I use Honda spray polish and wipe off with a towel...It cleans it and puts a protective coating on it so the next time you wash it water will bead up and roll right off...If there are any oil spots or grease it'll take it right off with ease...If you've ever had a two stroke dirtbike you know how you will get that splatter of oil under the fender where the exhaust is...Spray Honda spray polish right there and it will take it off super easy..Just spray and wipe and it's gone and puts a wax like coating on it and makes it shine like new....Best stuff I've ever used...Best stuff I've ever used for cleaning engine and about a tie for the best stuff for cleaning plastics...And no oily residue left to attract more dirt.

I spray it with something that is not water, and then wash it off with water. If I don't have some sort of cleaning stuff,or if it's a dirt bike just covered in dirt - I just hose it with water.A sparkling clean and polished bike has never been on my wanted list.

Unless you want to keep it nice so it has some trade in value.

Who trades? My bikes are usually so thrashed by the time I get rid of them, they aren't worth much anyway.

Also, my engines are under a fairing and you can't see them.

I have two bikes that get the car soap and wash mit treatment. Hose them both thoroughly and dry with the leaf blower. They were made to be run in the rain with out problems so washing them is no biggie. That is unless you stick the hose in the air clearer.,,

Where do these cliche's come from ? Like if you wash your bike you don't ride it...lol

Just because some people like to keep their bike clean doesn't mean they don't ride it...Someone taking 30 minutes to an hour to wash their bike once a month or whenever it needs it isn't going to exactly cut into their riding time...
