Tonight it's kind of rainy and clammy outside, so some sort of "comfort food" sounds really good, and just kick back and watch a movie or something.

I'm going to make lasagna. I haven't had that in ages, and it sounds really good. I'm going to cheat a little for the sauce though...I got some store-bought marinara sauce, but it's going to get "kicked up a notch" with some extra minced garlic, a few dashes of Louisiana hot sauce, and my secret ingredient, about a tablespoon of Cajun spice.
I want some meat too, so I got some Italian sausage that'll get crumbled and simmered right into the sauce. From there, the rest is easy.

Some might think I'm wierd, but my favorite part is the edges where it's almost a bit burnt. That brown crispy cheese is the best part!

I'll make enough that it'll also be lunch for the better part of the rest of the week too. Normally I hate leftovers, but this is one thing that reheats nicely and still tastes good.

So what's everyone else having?

Some sanfwhich thing encased in plastic.

Open one end the heat in microwave for 91 seconds.

Allow to cool a bit. Remove from plastic.

Eat while watching TV showing incoming storm.

Tornado watch.

Rotating air masses.

80 mph straight-line winds.

Tornado warning out west.

Could this be my last meal?

Will shanty end up in Iowa?

Eeeeeeeek.

Lousy sandwhich.

May need to purchase a female in order to have better meals prepared.

How much do those French maid outfits cost?

Burp

Had a couple bratwurst patties with mustard, sharp cheddar and dill pickles on the side.

May not be very healthy, but most a that health food is about like nursing home/hospital slop,,,,not gonna partake till I have to!

Bob

Tornado warning sirens screamed, TV shouted to take shelter.

Okay... dash through driving rain, fling cellar door open and dive in.

Roaring wind beats against shanty as falling tree branches thud against the shanty and cellar door.

Light goes out. Darn. Standing in the dark with innumerable crawly things as the sirens, wind, branches and roaring wind beat against the shanty.

After 20 minutes or so the severe weather eases. Wait another 5 minutes since, at times, the weather eases right before the tornado hits.

Step outside and the branches litter the yard. Hot, Humid.

Power out. No wind. Sweat runs down the body.

Sigh..... what a delight electricity is.

No tornado locally, just a lot of branches and a few trees blown down and... no power.

Wait, wait some more. Flashlight and Hot Rod magazine Coot's only friends.

HEY!!!!!!!!!! 3-1/2 hours later..... the electrons are flowing through the wires again!!!!!

Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!

And life continues in the shanty in Shantyville.

Which taters Paul?

Just Idaho spuds. Drawn and quartered, oiled, herberated, baked, then broiled.

STOP you making me hungry

Do you buy more interesting varieties? At the moment we are trying to eat our way around the world trying different countries taters. Belle De Fontenay from France have been an interesting discovery from potato man at the farmers markert. Still searching for the world's best potato Maris Piper from England but no luck yet. Did find the other British super potato Jersey Royal which was a surprise. Never thought the humble tater could be so special

So what do they mean when they say "new" potatoes? Compared to what? Used ones?

I always got a chuckle out of that when I walk down the aisles of the grocery store and see canned potatoes with that on the label.

This fall, till up a nice area. Dig in some humus and manure. Next early spring plant a whole mess of different kinds of potatoes. Dig some early, cook and eat. Man that is good food.
