What are you doing right now?

Presenting with chest pain, and STILL waiting over 3 hours later? Show up at the ER closest to home with chest pain, and they'll take you back immediately, even if they are busy. I guess there's something to be said for our healthcare in the USA.
Your healthcare system is definitely better than ours. There is only one doctor in the ER here right now and a whole room of people waiting

I finally got to see the doctor and he said my blood looked good and showed no signs of a heart attack. They are going to do a chest x ray and other tests now

Great news....now you can eat during the x ray..... Just joking...
You put in a rough night. All the best..

Drive the 300+ miles down here to Reading, Pa, and breathe in some Nitro fumes tomorrow. That will get the ticker pumping.

It’s been a very long day! I woke up at 5:40, did my two Niagara tours and came here to the ER at 6pm. It’s 3:30 am now and I’m still here. I was supposed to do a 10 and a 1:00 tour tomorrow but my ex wife will need to do it now. I’m gonna need a lot of sleep 😴

When you run your own business you never have peace of mind. Always some details to worry about.
Sick? You have to keep things going. I'm in the same boat right now. Best of luck.

Yeah, that’s kind of ridiculous to wait over 3 hours and have chest pain. 🙁

EKG and bloodwork (troponin and CK levels) within 15 minutes was the typical protocol at the last hospital I worked at.

Healthcare in USA is in the toilet ! I'm 58, and never seen it this bad. Short staffed, overbooked, overworked doctor's.. Back in 1986, when I first started Con-Edison Utility, there were no co-pays for ER, or prescriptions, or just to see you're doctor. No deductibles to meet 1st. It was all free with the job. Now I go see a doctor, they tell me " Oh, you're 15 minutes is up, sorry, we'll have to schedule another visit " Another co-pay to continue where you left off. Ridiculous !!!!! It's PURE business now. Forget the patient. The 1st thing they want when they see you is " May I see you're insurance card to make a copy before we go any furthur ? " Insanity !!!!! Hope all is well Patman.

Maybe and kind of sorta. I agree some places and some doctors are as stated. At 58, not sure what you are using for insurance. State marketplace, retirement, straight premium purchase?

First of all, some of the USA have arrived at the conclusion; There is only ONE person responsible for your health. YOU. Yes doctors are not going to spend an hour with you. So be ready. I've even made notes on my phone to ask the doc. When blood draws or other precious bodily fluids are analyzed, read the results before you see the doc so you can go in informed.

And if you are not satisfied with the medical care, move on. Find a good doctor.

I don't think once the doc has your details on file for the year, why would they ask again.

Also, be careful what you ask for. You want a Brit or Canadian or Chinese system? They can be and are worse. Make your system work for you.

I had my infamous hernia patch in May. Guys here got tired of reading how close it was to the vital area. Professional work. I'm good to go again. $0.00 cost to me.

You are young and have quite a few issues from what you have posted. I suggest you dig in and see what you can do to help yourself if you haven't already.

This needs to be in a new thread by itself and not debated here. Please start a thread on it.

This is Off Topic:

I was in an hospital elevator about 3 months ago and I overheard two doctors in their mid 40’s talking.

One doctor tells the other if he could sell and get $3M for his medical practice he would quit and never work in healthcare again. Seems to me like he was burned out and unhappy.

Being a doctor is not always sunshine and roses….

So true, we have a young doctor in the family. She cant honestly say she would do it all over again. The hours and stress can be brutal when you are young. Never mind the YEARS of school that you had to go through to get to that point.

BTW- the doctor shortage was created by the government asking colleges to limit admissions a while back because of the fear of too many doctors... that's what happens when you know who gets involved. That is over now.

The only thing that confuses me is 3 million seems like pennies to buy a successful practice? But what do I know? Nothing, however I can relate it to private storefront business.

How much debt does this doctor have ?

Pending lawsuits ?

$3M cash is not a small amount of money.

Other doctors might not be interested in buying his practice and start their own practice.

*** Edit ***
Doctors are 100% beholden to the mothership they are affiliated with.
Don’t follow their rules, your privileges are revoked and they no longer need your medical services.

Hospital CEO with MBA in Healthcare Administration does NOT care if you’re an MD and 30 years of experience.

Sad but true.

Doctors are in such high demand, it's the doctor who makes the rules not the other way around.
I would disagree on the 3 million but maybe he is a single small practice? I havent thought much about it.

PS the insurance industry controls all the above.

I had the EKG and first bloodwork taken as soon as I arrived there actually so if it was more serious I would have been processed sooner than I was. In the end I was there for 12 hours but I also had two more blood tests done, a chest X ray and a cat scan. In the end I was given a clean bill of health for my heart and lungs (they were concerned about blood clots). They sent everything to my family doctor and I will follow up with him soon in case he wants to check other things. Right now my chest pain is about a 1 out of 10.
