What 2 cycle oil for string trimmer?

Just wondering what 2 cycle oil you guys prefer for a string trimmer. I ended up buying Poulan Synthetic 2 cycle oil because it was the only synthetic that my local Walmart had in stock at the time.

Just wondering what you guys thought for oil. Keep in mind that I won't order oil and typically shop at places like Walmart, Home Depot, Sears, etc.

the oil is fine it will be the least of your worries with a Craftsman string trimmer.

I also have a Craftsman (32cc) weed whacker. I have misplaced the OM and I can't recall the ratio. Is it OK to use the ratio on the 2 stroke oil bottle in all applications. I think it was Poulan synthetic that I mixed in a 2 oz. bottle to a gallon of gas. Any problems foreseen?

Yes, the proportions relate to the oil being used, not the equipment.

My owner's manual says to use a 40:1 ratio. The owner needs to use the right mixture for the trimmer he is using. If his trimmer calls for a 40:1 ratio, then he shouldn't be using let's say a 100:1 ratio just because the oil container says so.

You should try to use the ratio specified by your owner's manual. If you have a Craftsman trimmer, I guarantee that you need a 40:1 ratio. If you were close to that, say you had some 50:1 mixture laying around, that should be close enough. Try not to go with what's on any old oil container. Mix the ratio that your trimmer requires. That should be the safest bet in order to make your trimmer have a long and happy life.

I have the same Craftsmen weedeater that I got when I got married 16 years ago and it still runs like a top. I mix the gas 32:1. That would be about 4 ounces to 1 gallon of gas. I have never had a problem with 32:1. Any oil would be fine, I used Amoco two stroke till I could no longer buy it, currently I am useing Pennzoil Two stroke small engine oil. If you want the absolute best, get the Echo brand two stroke, not really pricey if you buy it by the gallon. But it has the best ratings and specs.

I use Amsoil Saber two stroke oil at 80:1 in my Craftsman trimmer and blower and they run just as well as they did with conventional at 40:1.

I originally ran it at 100:1, but while they ran fine I was a bit leary so I richened it up a bit. It's very economical, one 8 oz bottle lasts me years.

I've used the Poulan synthetic from Wally's in my line trimmer at 40:1. Runs nice and clean, though I don't care for the smell of the exhaust while using it. It's smokeless after warm-up, too.

Pennzoil Air-Cooled (available at most AAP's) or Super Tech Precise Mix (WM) oil will also likely work well for you.

Basically, any 2-stroke oil for air-cooled applications, mixed correctly, will do the job.

This season I'm running Amsoil Saber Pro at 80:1 in all my two-strokes this year. So far, so good in the chain saw, blower, line trimmer, and the brush cutter. Haven't run it in the hedge trimmer yet, but I don't expect any problems there, either.

I use Amsoil Saber in my Echo weed wacker. The machine is 10 years old and runs well on this oil. Starts easy and no smoke using 50:1 mixture.

I use Husqvarna or Echo Oil, at 50:1 in all my 2 stroke engines.

So far so good.

+1, I am running some antiques on 50:1 Stihl Ultra.

Not that brand trimmer, but I've been using TCW-3 in my trimmer at 32:1.

Everything looks great inside, no soot anywhere.

Except the flame trap ends up "gumming"up, and needing to be cleared with a propane torch.

I am using Stihl HP Ultra mixed at 50:1 gas/oil ratio for all my outdoor power equipment at this time. This is Stihl's full synthetic 2 stroke oil. I do not notice any smoke at startup or during use. It seems to burn very cleanly.
