You must have been reading my mind. I've been successfully using Earth Carpet Spartan Grade A for decades, but last year I tried Earth Carpet's Madison Parks on recommendation from my seed salesman to see if it might work better on my well drained sandy loam soil. MSU has been switching to Turf Type Tall fescue in an attempt to reduce maintenance input (fertlizer, water, pesticides).

If it was my lawn, I would consider giving it time for the active ingredient to mostly deactivate, rake it rather heavily and then just overseed. Otherwise you will be dealing with loose soil going into fall and winter.

Well I am not a groundskeeper but I think you have lots of time left to get it started, If you have a wet spring with no living roots you will end up with a giant mess I think? If you don't you will have a bunch of weeds in the spring.

Spread fine compost 1” or so deep and continue to water.

I guess I could rototiller it deep in a month or so. Seed it and see what happens. Buying Sod for 5,000 square feet would be out of the question.

No reason to rototiller just wait a week to see the damage I'm thinking you wiped most of it out of you sprayed at recommend dose. Cut short de thatch clean up debris. Buy a quality Kentucky Blue Grass tall fescue seed and put it down. Keep it moist until full germination. Your doing a unexpected lawn renovation good luck. I stopped with all the "number" fertilizers 5 years ago. Now I just put Milorganite down... basically near Spring-Fall holidays +/- a week or 3.
MDW, 7/4, Labor Day/ just before Thanksgiving.
Lawn is small but looks great.

Your lawn will end up being high in potassium use some no potassium fertilizer once in awhile

Late summer early fall best time to seed not spring.

Needs a heavy de-thatch. I would plant mid to late Sept. Still plenty of growing season for cool weather fescues. I wouldn't wait till Spring.

You can seed in south central Michigan at least through mid-September. A week or two later IF we get a longer fall. I have overseeded two different ways: You can rent an overseeder machine with spinning knives that cuts furrows into the existing sod (dead or alive) and drops seed into those furrows. If energetic, you can scarify the dead turf areas with aggressive metal or plastic leaf raking, broadcast seed over the area, then lightly leaf rake over that to get the seed in contact with the soil (do when dry, not morning dew moist grass). In either case, the dead grass and thatch provides a mulch layer to cover the new seed to assist germination. Water almost daily to keep it moist during the germination period of 12 to 21 days. This will work IF the preemergent herbicide has dissipated enough.
