I was getting out of the mountains today and happened to look down at my Odo and the mileage caught my eye. The gaps left from the one's made it look like a reading of 12,12,12, so I snapped a phone-pic (notice the speedo is at zero, so yes, I took precautions). Anyways, I was bored and thought I'd post it up and ask if anyone else has had other weird odometer experiences.

Why do you think that's weird? A "1" simply requires less space than any other digit in a typical 7-segment digital display, hence the "gaps." Although this could be an LED display, it looks very much like a VFD (vacuum fluorescent display), which were still used in some 1980s cars and are still used in many alarm clocks, VCRs, etc.

I drive roughly 700 miles a week. Id say at least 3 Saturdays in recent memory 666 crept up in the trip meter when I was looking. It's not hard to miss on the other hand, most of us look at the speedo often. I am a numbers person, and my girlfriend isn't, so weird occurences I have to keep to myself or tell strangers on the web I'm afraid

getnpsi,
if your mind works on numbers and pattern recognition, you'll see stuff like that all the time...I do.

Can walk across a paddock talking to someone, and get attracted to a single 4 leaf clover...simply because it's different and caught my eye.

+1 your mind chooses to remember the 666 but not any other numbers you flick your eye across..

Some of you guys are hilarious, I was just pointing this out as a goof. I'm a bit nervous when/if it makes it to 13,13,13 though!!! Hope there's some more witty replies yet to come.

I too noticed the 666 when I was pulling into the driveway a month ago and ended up driving around the block real quick to change it.

LED displays do not work well in the lighting conditions you find in a car. The choices are pretty much an LED or incandescent backlit LCD display or a VFD display.
