Weird doctors office experience

I hate being set up for failure with appt times.

My wife made an orthodontist appointment such that because my son’s bus was late first day of school, we were late. The receptionist said please be on time for the next. She had every right to say that.

In other words my wife’s scheduling made it such that if I drive like a madman and the bus were on time, we’d barely make it.

So while I believe we should be on time, I expect similar of a provider. 15 even 30 minutes late is ok. 3 hours? I’m charging that doctor 3 hours times $7.25/hr or $21.75 as a late charge.

I can understand photos with pro athletes……. photos with grimy politicians is just bizarre.

Update:the second doctor I saw was normal and he completely disagreed with the first. Ordered a few blood tests, which I had drawn yesterday as opposed to the 17 vials and 50+ tests the first doctor ordered. Already getting some results back, here is to hoping they get to the bottom of this. Lots of red on the lab report 👎

The exception that I have had to put up with and I totaly understand and don't mind, is the time my back doctor had everyone's appointment running way behind because she had been called to do an emergency surgery. Some surgeons ocasionally have unpredictable hours. I saw that doctor for many years and it only happened once.

One of my brothers once had a severe back problem resulting in part of his spine being against nerves of his spinal column. He was unable to stand at all. They took images and rushed him to surgery ( different doctor ). It was his second operation on the same area L5-S1. The previous operation was several years before this and by the same doctor.

Theres some specialties where every once in a while, they truly must drop everything and do an emergency operation.

I’ve been dealing with an ongoing health issue for over a month now, trying to get answers and seeing a myriad of specialist. My latest experience was with a rheumatologist office. I really liked the doctor in the hospital but upon my follow up in the office his senior partner had two of his published books on display in a case in the waiting room for $25 a pop and a sign saying you could get the books autographed by the doctor upon request.

It just left a really bad impression on me. Also he had pictures with various politicians that were autographed and on display as well. I don’t care the political affiliation of the doctor I really don’t but it just seemed tacky. “Hey look at me and who I know.” The final strike was a sign saying you can expect to wait up to 3 hours beyond your appointment time due to the complex nature of treatments etc…is this weird and off putting or am i just irritable?

Needless to say I sought a second opinion.
Ehh that is a little weird that he has a signed book on display with a price. I've never seen that at any physicians office before. The sign that says you can expect to wait up to three hours beyond your appointment time would have me looking for a different provider. That shows a lack of scheduling and a lack of respect for the patients time.

I just had them forget me in a room experience. I posted it somewhere here. I was angry but didn’t yell. Amazing restraint. They should have given me a chocolate donut.
I very nearly got locked in a Physical Therapist office. I was in a room, on ice. The therapist in charge had some sort of personal emergency, so they were closing early. No fun.

My new Endocrinologist office has a board at check in, listing the different doctors in the practice, if they are behind, how far behind. I had never seen that before.

Actually on ice! Wow.

I kept thinking they need some kind of failsafe when sitting there in the dark. Some kind of timer they set for everything. Invention time!

I had a similar experience with an orthopedic doctor. I’d done a yearlong tour in Iraq with a knee injury. I was pcs’d to Alabama on my return and needed it fixed. While I was seeing the Army docs to get the ok to see a specialist, I ran into a Major who said there was that famous ortho surgeon who did all the pro athletes up the road and why didn’t I go see him. I did - big mistake.

6 hour wait to see a pa. A lot of time to see all the pics of the famous athletes on every wall. Two minutes with her, another 45 minutes. Less than thirty seconds with famous doctor who basically said “nothing wrong with you” and walked out. No tests, no imaging, PA barely examined the knee, the doc not at all. Saw a non-famous, regular ortho doc in Daleville. Found plica band (which I’d had trouble with in high school football) and slight dislocation of MCL. Quick and successful surgery.

He had all that going on because he's a very important and influential man. You didn't know that about him prior to your visit, so his branding had to inform you. How awesome would it have been for your insurance to shovel loads of cash into his practice?

Sorry you ended up going with a generic doctor. ;)

Took my wife to an Ortho appointment . There are several Docs in that clinic . At one point the Nurse walked out in the lobby and announced that Doctor ++++ was running late due to issues during a morning surgery .but had just left the Hospital . His patients could either stay in the que or reschedule . Fair enough I thought . Some woman piped up and asked could they go get something to eat and come back ? The Nurse told her if she leaves , she loses her appointment slot .She wasn't happy about that ...

thats really fitting because the 24 hour cancellation signs were hanging everywhere too.

My wife got stuck in an acupuncture room. Had needles stuck in her and therapist apparently for about her. Really freaked her out.

this actually came in to play once recently. They wanted to do 4 pediatric crowns for my son who I think was about 8. My buddy said why? They're baby teeth. My wife and son were already in the office, but, me being diligent, I called the insurance co. to make sure they had done a prior auth. They hadn't. So, the insurance called the office and said they are the insurance and they have the patient's father on the line.

The lady was super nasty at the office and said I've been here 26 years and we have never done a prior auth for anything! The insurance stated again it's needed for this procedure. So I said I want to cancel the appointment I'm not comfortable that the prior auth wasn't done, and she told me we'd be charged a $75 no show hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The insurance anyway stated we are on a recorded line and the member cannot be charged anything if you fail or refuse to do the prior auth.

I guess it was a miracle that day. Suddenly the office said my son didn't need pediatric crowns, we could just wait for the teeth to fall out.

Can't make this stuff up.
